What you'll do

We'll cook a delicious Indian Curry together & I will show you how to build layers of flavour with every ingredient you throw into a pot. We will also make a delicately spiced rice dish (Pulao) to accompany the curry. Vegetarian & vegan options are available & by the end of the workshop, you would have prepared an amazing meal in your kitchen with guidance from me every step of the way! My menu changes often & features a different spectacular Indian curry every few weeks.

THIS WEEK: a mellow, coastal style coconut based curry
SOUTH-INDIAN CHICKEN / VEG KORMA with CASHEW PULAO

Once you book the experience, you will receive a list of ingredients to prep. The agenda is simple - we chat for a bit, get to know one another & then start cooking. My style is laid-back & folks are free to chat, ask questions & interact as we cook. After cooking, I will also show you how to plate up & shoot that perfect photo for your Instagram / Facebook / Tinder profile. A fun way to spend a birthday / anniversary / special occasion!

This is an excellent team building activity too, perfect for company offsites & corporate team bonding exercises.

My name is Dhruv Shanker, but they call me the Mad Onion Slicer. I'm a former professional chef and am dead serious about having fun in the kitchen. I’ve been running a cooking class called the Boring Indian Food Workshop since 2019, and while I personally think it’s pretty awful, the staggering number of folks who gave it 5 stars seem to have enjoyed it. To my utter amazement - I was selected to be one of Airbnb’s top 5 Cooking hosts globally last year!

I’ve been writing a light-hearted food blog for many years now, and teach people how to produce food that’s simple to cook and absolutely delicious. You can look me up on Instagram (@madonionslicer) to see what my food looks like. Everyone who’s tried my recipes has survived to tell the happy tale!

This was my first cooking class ever (online or in person) and it was a great learning experience and a lot of fun. Dhruv provided a detailed list of ingredients to have on hand, and explained each step - what we were doing and why - and checked in with us individually to make sure things were going as planned. The chicken korma and rice w/cashews turned out great. And as a bonus we got a short virtual tour of Singapore. Dhruv changes the menu around and I will definitely take another class with him.

This class was fun as well as educational. Cooking with Dhruv helped me learn that I can make authentic tasting Indian food. I almost always go out for Indian cuisine, having had limited success making my own. After this class, in which we learned general concepts as well as specific recipes, I think I’ll be able to expand my Indian cooking and enjoy more delicious recipes at home. An added bonus was the quick visual tour of Singapore provided by the view from Dhruv’s balcony. Food and travel—perfect together.

I cannot recommend this enough!! We followed along with Dhruv, and he gave us amazing tips and tricks to build spice and flavor. The time flew by, and we had a lot of fun talking with him about travel, food, rescue dogs, and jiu-jitsu. The food was delicious, and we cannot wait to make it again.

Great class! I organised this for a group of 16 as a team bonding activity and it was just so much fun! Dhruv was hilarious and kept the group buzzing and of course, taught everyone how to cook a delicious Indian meal!
