What you'll do
West Coast Jazz concerts are designed to create positive interaction between the performers and audience members. Guests will arrive and have between 8-8:15pm to enjoy a beverage, meet and greet fellow travelers, chat with the performers, and then take a seat for the show. The concert will consist of jazz/funk ensemble COPUS plus guest poets, singer/songwriters and/or comedians. There will be two 45-minute sets with a 15-minute intermission. Here is what one music writer had to say about COPUS - "The core of the group is composer, musical director and co-producer Wendy Loomis and Royal Kent, poet and co-producer. Together, they produce music that is part jazz, part classical, cerebral and sexy. Think of Copus as the love child of Jack Kerouac and Grace Jones." ~Tom Kidd, Music Connection Magazine From 10-10:30pm there will be additional time for interaction, networking, and socializing between audience members and performers. We will have an amazing merchandise table that will include specialty teas, music CDs, and hand-crafted luxury bath and body products - perfect souvenir items to bring home from your San Francisco visit!
We will provide complimentary Chinese special teas, locally-produced wine, and spring water.
West Coast Jazz concerts bring together the talents of ASCAP-award-winning composer/pianist Wendy Loomis, renowned poet Royal Kent, bassist Patrick Mahon, and drummer Levon Washington - aka jazz funk band COPUS. Having performed at theaters, festivals, and clubs throughout the U.S., COPUS recently was nominated for 'best jazz' by the Hollywood Music & Media Awards and won 'best spoken word' by the Clouzine International Music Awards. For the past 3 years we have produced a house concert series called "Poets & Composers Salons" that included COPUS along with top-notch guest artists from around the Bay Area. Because it was so successful, we needed a larger venue so we hooked up with beautiful, historic Clarion Performing Arts Center in Chinatown where we now present shows monthly. We look forward to you joining us!
