What you'll do

You will meet your guides at Ted Sperling Park, the launch site for the famous Lido Mangrove Tunnels. After a short explanation of the equipment and the paddle, we will launch and practice our skills in a beautiful, shallow bay. Karla and Aaron will be on hand to ensure that you feel comfortable. Their goal is safety and fun. Depending on weather conditions, we may paddle to the channel with a goal of paddling with manatees and dolphins. If we do come across them, we will keep our distance and watch them play and frolic. Occasionally, manatees will be curious and will swim up to us. It is such a special experience. Next up, we will head to the mangrove tunnels. We may take a short break at a private beach to stretch our legs before we head into the maze of mangrove tunnels. Your guides will help you navigate the tunnels, pointing out exotic wildlife as you pass. Everyone loves when finding giant hermit crabs and seastars along the way. After paddling though the tunnels and to the hidden lagoon, we will head back to the launch. Your hosts will text photos of your adventure for you to share with friends and family.

Karla

Aloha! We are Aaron and Karla, husband and wife team and hosts of this unique experience. We love exploring the waterways—learning about the ecosystem and sharing our passion with others—especially families. Aaron has over forty years of on the water experience through guiding kayak and paddleboard tours, and teaching children surfing and paddleboarding. He is the head instructor in the USA for Association of Surfing Instructors (ASI) and holds the highest level certification for that organization. Karla is a marine biologist for NOAA and holds ASI and WPA certifications. Together they have paddled with 1000’s of people and are patient and kind in their approach. Whether you are an experienced paddler or a first-timer, they will make sure you have fun and are comfortable. We love to share this with families of all ages.

Ted Sperling Park is a small kayak launch and is the best and easiest way to get to the mangrove tunnels. The mangrove tunnels are unique saltwater paths that wind their way through mangrove trees and to a hidden lagoon.
