My name is Paula. I was born in Lisbon but I grew up with my family in this rural area. I always loved to go up the mountain with the horses, cows and goats, find new lakes and waterfalls and discover more and more beatifull landscapes. I'm cultural manager but I prefer to walk all day up the mountain. I learned about wool, linen, and rye and start a new project to recover lost traditions with the old people from here. I also work with the children to give them the knowledge of these traditions. I know that Iive it in a very special place and I want to preserve it. My work helps people in the village, contributes to the common welfare, to the maintenance and enhancement of the natural and cultural heritage.

Paula went out of her way to make our booked day special in spite of the terrible weather. She made arrangements for several alternatives as the higher mountains were inaccessible that day because of horizontal, pelting rain and poor visibility. In the end we decided to go with the flock anyway and had a marvellous day. Paula carried and served a wonderful home-produced lunch over a very welcome open fire in a shelter in the mountains which we all enjoyed tremendously. Paula was very accommodating of our decision to shorten our day a little as we were soaked through and had a long drive afterwards in poor conditions that we wanted to complete before nightfall, so she became mountain guide and led us safely down the mountain to the village. She was, throughout the day, professional and friendly and genuinely concerned for our welfare and that we were enjoying ourselves. We felt we had gained an insight into the tough life led my many people still doing this kind of livestock farming by mountain foraging all over the world. We went home a little humbled! Highly recommended experience.
