What you'll do

Are you visiting Hungary but just have some days to spend only in Budapest? You always wanted to visit the wine regions in Hungary but had no time for that? Here is your great chance to do that during only one day. We will travel to Páty, which is a 20 minute drive from Budapest. Here you can find old, astonishing cellars, which were built in 1880. These typical cellars can be found only in this region and really looking like the Hobbit burrows in the Shrine from Lord of the Rings. During on our way to Páty we will give you a introduction to our thousands years old wine tradition. In the wine region we'll taste at least 8 different wines from different winemakers. Visiting one or two wine cellars - one of them is making organic wines, where you will meet with the local winemakers and taste their wine in their cellars. As this is an interactive wine tasting, you will have lot's of opportunities to ask questions and to get familiar with our friends in the region. At the wine cellar our host will prepare some finger foods/snacks for you. After the program we take you back to Budapest.

We are Miklós and Erika and both are wine lovers! I am not only a wine lover but also a wine judge and wine journalist. I am doing this since 2005. I also visited many wine countries and spent some time there such as USA (Oregon), Italy, France, Spain and Israel. I also had my own wine store and was the retail director of the second biggest wine trader company in Hungary. Erika was born in a wine making family in Pest county and she took a main part of her family business. Wine is our passion but to see the whole picture you also have to know the winemakers. Fortunately, we know most of them in person. Telling their stories to you makes this event memorable.

This was an unforgettable experience; perfect for those wishing to see firsthand a genuine, heartfelt experience between the winemaker, the land, and those enjoying the wine. In my particular case, it was simply (and perfectly) the three of us at a table in a 200 year old cave, talking about wine, food, Hungary, and life. What could be more real? This is of course a great opportunity to learn more about Hungarian wine, but most of all, it is a chance to connect with warm and friendly souls (Miki and Zsolt) who enjoy sharing their passion for life. Egészségére!

Wine tasting in the countryside with Miklós and Erica and was a great experience! They have a vast knowledge about wine, I learned a lot about history of hungarian winemaking. The wine cellar is located in magical surrounding that reminds of the Shire ;) The winemaker who's cellar we visited is a kind, warm-hearted and hospitable person. The wine itself was also very interesting, of both local and international grape varieties, and I must say, a few glasses really surprised me! I highly recommend wine tasting with Miklós!

This is a phenomenal trip not to be missed with Miklos! The countryside around Budapest is stunning and spending an afternoon drinking organic wine in an idyllic village really separates you from the city. We learned a lot about Hungarian wine and culture and even shared some folk songs. Highly recommended!

This wine tour was first class - the highlight of our trip to Budapest. Miklos & Erika were very friendly, knowledgable and keen to share their passion for wine. The winemaker we met was also lovely. It was a nice trip into the country to visit these amazing small wine cellars. There was plenty of wine to try and it was all delicious and really interesting to see how it was made. There was also a nice selection of snacks to help soak up some of the alcohol. An excellent experience. Highly recommended.

Our wine tasting experience with Miki and the wine maker was fantastic. It was great to leave the touristy city and head out to the wine cellars in the hills just outside of Budapest. We tasted several wines as well as some traditional snacks while learning plenty about the wine history of Hungary. Miki was very knowledgeable on both Hungarian wine and general history as well - he was great for entertaining our 100s of questions throughout the day. Although the winemaker had little to no English, you could feel his passion and love for sharing the wine and his story with guests. We really enjoyed the wine and the only thing we regret is not bringing more cash to purchase additional bottles! We would definitely recommend this experience to any wine lover who wants to get out of the hustle and bustle of the city to experience a unique part of the Hungarian culture.
