What you'll do

St Andrews is known as the Home of Golf. It is also home to Scotland's first university, was the greatest seat of Catholic power outside Rome for over eight centuries, and is one of Europe's top destinations for the rich, the famous and the infamous (that will be the rest us then!). My tours are an impassioned exploration of its historic landmarks, scenic locations and a few hidden gems rarely seen by the visitor. You will see and hear about Scotland's oldest university and its historic Colleges, including the beautiful quadrangles of St Mary's and St Salvators. Deans Court, Queen Marys House, the beautiful coastline of St Andrews Bay, the Archbishops Palace and the Principles House. We shall also wander around the medieval City of St Andrews with its iconic Cathedral ruins and Priory precincts. Laced throughout the tour you will also hear about a remarkable St Andrews history, including a lot of previously lost or forgotten history, including an exploration into the lost treasures of St Andrews. We have had our fair share of gruesome moments in St Andrews… oh yes! But these tend to overshadow the fact that for the most part, St Andrews has always been a seat of learning, Innovation and peace. All in all, this is a unique, informative and educational insight into one of the most beautiful towns in the world, and I look forward to welcoming you on a tour.

Richard

I'm a local historical researcher, author, paranormal authority and I conduct St Andrews No.1 walking tours, covering anything from its remarkable history to the factual side of the paranormal in St Andrews (the latter is optional). The tours are based on personal research and experience of St Andrews spanning five decades and includes previously unknown information. To this end, I also write books on local history/paranormal. I have been conducting tours for five years and have received a number of awards including Excellence in Service in Scotland 2019, Excellence in Service in Fife 2018, Unique Experience of the year 2017 & 2018. I have 5 stars on tripadvisor together with their Certificate of Excellence Award for 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and I am one of only 4 walking tours in Scotland awarded 5 Stars through the Scottish Tourist Board
