Paddle down a River

About your host

I've been paddling canoes and kayaks since I was a child. I love how this river is challenging, scenic, wild, and still undeveloped. It is a pleasure to paddle.

What we’ll do

I will provide basic paddling instructions. Then, we will buddy up and get into a canoe and paddle 8.5 miles downstream. We can have 2-3 people in each canoe. The river is narrow with lots of twists and turns and requires lots of maneuvering. We will stop at 2 dams for swimming/breaks, and then take a longer lunch break at Trapper Nelson's homestead. There, we will go on a ranger led tour. …

What else you should know

Bring sunscreen, waterproof camera, wide brimmed hat, sunglasses, clothing to get wet, water shoes, picnic lunch

canoes, paddles, pfd

What to bring

sunscreen, hat, clothes that can get wet, sturdy water shoes, camera, lunch and snacks and drinks

Where you'll be

We'll be paddling on the Wild and Scenic Loxahatchee River. It's a 8.5 mile paddle downstream. We start off in freshwater with Cypress trees dotting the banks covered in epiphytes. It seems like we've stepped back in time and are in a primeval forest. Then, we end in a brackish mangrove estuary.
