What you'll do

I'm going to show you round Sydney's LGBT past and present in this friendly, relaxed and informative walking tour. You'll hear the stories of prominent gay citizens of the city, as well as important parts of the cultural scene, including the intenationally renowned Mardi Gras parade. As a gay Sydney-sider, I'll also share personal recommendations - culinary, cultural and anything else you're curious about - plus am always happy to answer queeries you might have :) With Mardi Gras - festival, party and parade - fast approaching with a plethora of things do, can definitely help you with any questions you have.

This tour is perfect for solo-travellers, as you can easily connect with others, many of whom are travelling solo too. Of course, couples and groups will also fit in perfectly!

For the daytime tour, we will stop midway for coffee/tea/soft drinks, and for the evening tour, we will get a drink at the end - on me!
Other things to note
This tour is all walking, but it's without any significant hills. Also, bring a hat and/or sunscreen as summer is upon us!

Where you'll be

We'll start at majestic Hyde Park to get some historic perspectives, wonder down iconic Oxford St where many key gay events and locales are located, down the back-streets of Darlo to hear some personal queer stories, and finish at Taylor's Square where Mardi Gras - Australia's 'Stonewall' - is celebrated. For those who have time, we will go for a drink/coffee/bit to eat at cafe at Taylor's Square, where we can chit-chat further :)

I felt terrible when I was 20 minutes late but Michael was very patient with another AIRBNB Guest (sorry guys!) and it was a knowledgable and fun experience of sharing experiences of our countries regarding LGBT (personal and general). I recommend to everyone who would like to know the history of LGBT in Sydney especially how Mardi Gras came to be.

This was such a unique experience! Michael is very knowledgeable and clearly passionate about not only Australia's LGBTQ history but also throughout the world. I really enjoyed learning from him and discussing LGBTQ culture with him over coffee during the tour. He has organized the tour very nicely and I was so impressed by the way he spoke! Definitely recommend!
