What you'll do

Venturing from our home, through the heart of Durbanville winelands, you’ll arrive at an award winning boutique winery whereupon you will be treated to a demonstration on the art of sabraging champagne, learn about the winery and taste how their unique terroir beautifully pairs with our oysters.

We will then return for an experiential journey in which you will be taught the skill of shucking oysters and cleaning mussels; followed by a taste sensation seafood braai. Nothing beats fresh oysters and mussels freshly plucked from the ocean - but be warned, this exquisite flavour may well ruin any future restaurant experiences.
Other things to note
Guests will need to provide their own transport to and from Durbanville. Guests can bring other drinks or purchase wine from the farm. In the event of red tide, we will replace with other seafood.

From our very first interaction setting up our experience, Charlene was accommodating and friendly. Then, our experience was so relaxing and special. We enjoyed wine tasting at a local farm, and dinner at their home was SO WONDERFUL! The quality of the mussels and oysters were amazing. But the absolute best part of our experience was how they made us feel. It felt so warm and inviting to be welcomed into their home and we left feeling like friends of their family. Definitely an unforgettable experience, and the best way to spend our first evening in Cape Town.

I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with Charlene and Michael - it was a fantastic day and an unforgettable experience. I shared this experience with my partner and we both felt extremely comfortable and welcome in M and C's home. We also felt C + M went the extra mile and really pulled out all the stops. We went to a lovely vineyard and had our own private wine tasting room (haven't been to a wine farm like this before) where we tasted locally produced wines as well as some oysters that Charlene prepared for us. At the wine farm my gf also learnt how to sabrage a bottle of Champagne. We then braai'd (bbq) at C + M's house where we had bottomless muscles and oysters, with salad, garlic sauce and a perfectly braai'd angelfish. We left the experience full of food and full of memories. It was a lovely experience.

This Oyster and Bubbly Journey was awesome. We spent a wonderful time with Charlene and Michael, having a very interesting and entertaining conversation, laughing a lot and of course tasting the most delicious seafood, we have ever eaten before. This really is a hard act to follow. We also enjoyed the wine tasting and especially the ceremony of opening the Bubble which gave us all a good laugh. Charlene and Michael are great hosts and excellent cooks. They really made us feel welcome and at home.

This was our great final of one of our several trips to SA overexiding all expectations. Charlene&Micheal are the perfect hosts and have spoilt us with their hospitality, friendliness and knowledge about oysters, mussels and SA traditions. First we were driven out to a charming small winery in the area - we have visited many wineries but this one was definitely different - and had with the wine tasting oysters matching perfectly. After this we got a great bubbly opened by sable - it works and is fun! Back at the family home of Charlene&Michael we started cleaning mussels and learned how to open oysters. Charlene's oysters are one of the best we ever had. The day before we have been eating oysters at a restaurant (Doodles at Blaubergstrand) and we were amazed of the exceptional quality and the size of them. It came out that Charlene is delivering her oysters to them, what a coincidence. Charlene prepared some nice sauces and delicouse salads and a braai bread for us and Michael was the chef at the braai and made a snoek as well. We eat and chatted together like old friends. My husband and I spend a fantastic afternoon, with excellent food (I think we will never ever again eat seafood in a restaurant in CT but invite us by Charlene&Micheal...). We gained new friends and will be back for the best oysters and mussels ever. By the way Charlene makes her own oysters-salt a mix of salt, pepper and secret ingredients which match not only with oysters, I use it already for meat, salads and over pasta. Go and try this great experience it was an incredibly positive event, don't lose it!

Michael and Charlene are amazing hosts! After meeting them in their home we traveled to a charming vineyard for a wine and oyster tasting and "sabraged" a bottle of champagne. Returning to their residence, they put together a feast of mussels, oysters and local fish - all in their special preparation. We were given the opportunity to help clean and shuck the shellfish - a first for my girlfriend and I - we're clearly not as practiced as Charlene! The food was delicious (in sincere honesty, better than anything we've experience in restaurants here so far). The company was even better :). We're hoping they find their way to California one day so we might treat them the same!
