What you'll do

You'll hike on the iconic Table Mountain, following a fun and exhilarating route, far from the madding crowd, that you won't find by following official trail markings. We'll meet at the Lower Cableway Station just before sunrise. After an introduction and safety briefing, we'll set off on our hike, which starts with a fairly steep climb. As we start gaining altitude along the slopes of the mountain you will be treated by sunrise hitting the mountain crags and slopes, the city and the sea - weather permitting, of course. After up to an hour following marked trails, we'll leave the beaten track for some off-trail adventure. There are several variations of varying difficulty. The exact variation will be decided during our introduction, or for private experiences beforehand. On the way up you will be treated to amazing views as we gain altitude, all the better appreciated during our frequent breaks. Here and there the monotony of slogging uphill will be broken by some rock steps that will require you to use your hands to climb up, adding some spice to the experience. Some four to six hours after setting off, we'll find ourselves on the summit of Table Mountain, where I will safely see you off at the Upper Cableway Station and the experience ends. Please note that this experience does not include your cableway ticket, and in case of adverse weather, we will walk down.

Hi, I'm Lukas the Housecat! I am a registered adventure guide - accredited to lead off-trail and overnight hikes - with more than ten years of mountain experience; hiking, trekking and rock climbing. I also served as mountain rescue volunteer with the Mountain Club of South Africa. During my ten years living in Cape Town, I've spent probably too much time on Table Mountain :) Having explored all its nooks and crannies, I've decided to share my insider knowledge with guests by leading adventure hikes on its more remote sections

Where you'll be

The entire experience unfolds on Table Mountain, specifically the northern buttresses. Depending on the route variant, you may visit The Saddle (the neck between Table Mountain and Devil's Peak), or Maclear's Beacon (the true summit of Table Mountain at 1084m). Finally, you will visit the upper cableway station, where the experience ends and you can leisurely stroll about, enjoy the fine restaurant or even sign up for an abseil!

More tips

This is not a normal hike! The route will bring you close to alarming drops, and is very strenuous. You will need a decent fitness level and a head for heights. Cableway ticket not included.
