About me

I am the founder of Yu-Art Kichijoji, a Japanese confectionery salon. After graduating from Musashino Art University, I worked as an industrial designer at a Japanese electronics manufacturer. On the other hand, I am strongly attracted to traditional Japanese culture, and I have learned the tea ceremony and obtained the Urasenke tea name (full-time instructor) "Soyu". As an extension of my tea ceremony studies, I learned how to make Japanese sweets for tea ceremonies from artisans at Japanese sweet shops, and I also learned recipes for Japanese sweets to make at home in cooking classes. By learning both professional recipes and homemade recipes, and utilizing the skills of an industrial designer, I have designed a Japanese sweet-making experience that "anyone can easily and enjoyably make". The sweets I make in my salon are traditional Japanese sweets served at tea ceremonies. In order to make guests feel more deeply immersed in Japanese culture, the tasting of Japanese sweets will be done as part of a tea ceremony (Usucha Tenmae) where I will be the host (the person who prepares the tea).
