I’m a fine art photographer based in Brooklyn who specializes in street portraits. A huge fan of New York City and its colorful characters, I’ve been photographing people on the street for close to 20 years (both posed and unposed/candid) and have learned a lot of lessons that I would love to pass on to you. My photographs exhibit internationally and have been published in The New York Times, the New York Observer, and most recently in the book Brooklyn Photographs Now, published by Rizzoli. I teach street portraiture at the International Center of Photography and through SEEK Workshops in Oaxaca, Mexico, and regularly give public talks on photographing strangers. BuzzFeed called me “a master of street photography in the busiest of all concrete jungles, New York City.” I'm represented by ClampArt, a well-known gallery located in Chelsea.

I met Amy at the designated meeting spot, and from the beginning Amy was engaged and welcoming. We found a place to sit where she first asked what each of us wanted out of the session today (such a good way to begin a conversation). Her explanation about taking street photos of strangers was so well described. We were given 3 assignments during our session; after each one, we went back to her to discuss our experiences. I started to feel less anxious about taking photos. She would bring into the discussion ways to take photos, as well as she would share her personal experiences. She was engaging, informative, and humorous throughout our session. At the end, Amy gave us her business card and said that we could send a couple of photos that she would look. I would definitely do this again.

What a really, really great experience! Amy was so helpful and she gave me do-able challenges that I will continue to work on. Amy knows so much about photography that I feel really lucky that I was able to spend this time learning from her. I highly recommend this experience, or any others, that Amy offers.
