What you'll do
Mexican Muralism is "The very first Latin American artistic manifestation worthy of a first class place inside Universal Culture"... yet its far more than Diego Rivera, J. C. Orozco & David Alfaro Siqueiros alone. Mexico City is a shrine of more than a thousand public artworks made by painters and artists throughout 4+ generations . The National Museum of Antropology, often overlooked, holds some of the most breathtakingly beautiful pieces to be seen in the city. During this 3 hour experience, I will guide you through the fascinating history of those pieces, and explain to you how those mural wonderfully open a dialog with its archeological surroundings, connecting past, present and future… Tamayo, Covarrubias, Mérida, Carrington, Estrada, Chávez Morado, González Camarena, and Lazo are just a handful of the maestros whose work decorates the many rooms filled with ancient relics of precolombine Mexico.
I'm an amateur historian and urban chronicler with a special interest in arts and arquitechture, particularly in the Mexican Muralist Movement (both in its 'traditional-realist' and 'abstract-rupturist' approaches). I have participated in the "III Forum of Muralism" (CENIDIAP-INBA) and in the "Centro SCOP - Past, Present & Future" Forum (IIE-UNAM). Also, I have met and interviewed maestros such as A. Estrada, G. Monroy, H. Cruz, A. Otero, A. González Orozco & R. Lazo, and specialized art historians such as G. Guadarrama and L. González Matute. My current work to obtain my bachelor's degree focuses on the relationship between biological sciences and the Mexican Muralism.
The experience included 1 general acess ticket to the Museum.
