What you'll do

Come spend a few hours at the Rebuilding Exchange in the popular Bucktown neighborhood with me, a local woodworker and maker, and local macrame artist, Kenyatta Forbes, to make a beautiful reclaimed wood and macrame hanging planter. First, I'll teach you basic woodworking skills while constructing a planter box out of reclaimed wood in our woodshop. Then, Kenyatta will instruct you on the art of knotting to create the macrame hanger for the planter. Everyone will leave with a beautiful finished piece. Workshop will be followed by a short walk over the river to have a refreshing drink, food, and good conversation at Chicago's favorite whisky bar. First drink provided by Distilled Chicago.

About the organization

Rebuilding Exchange

Our mission is to create a market for reclaimed building materials. We do this by diverting materials from landfills and making them accessible for reuse through our retail warehouse, by promoting sustainable deconstruction practices, by providing education and job training programs, and by creating innovative models for sustainable reuse.

This is a social impact experience where 100% of what you pay for this experience goes to Rebuilding Exchange.

Where you'll be

RX is located in the popular Bucktown neighborhood in Chicago, right on the Chicago River. The warehouse that now houses RX was a sheep sheering facility back in the day. After the workshop, participants will take a short stroll across the river to enjoy a drink at Chicago's favorite bourbon bar.
