What you'll do
We meet in the Quinta do Pisão car park. After dressing up, the safety rules for the activity will be indicated. Then we go to the apiary site, taking a short walk of about 800 m, where we can observe the different plants visited by the bees. In the apiary we will visit between 8 and 10 bee colonies, in hives of different shapes and sizes! We inspect each one of them, where we will remove one or more pictures to identify the inhabitants of the hive, brood combs and other honey and pollen. Leaving the apiary and returning to the meeting place, we will talk about the importance of bees and how we can preserve them.

Mechanical engineer by profession, I decided about 10 years ago to know the world of bees! Since then I have not stopped learning from this fascinating and important insect, which every day teaches us something new about its life. I am currently engaged in beekeeping, both in the production of honey and pollen and other products derived from the hive, and in the presentation of these small beings to the public. My mission is to captivate people for their important role in pollinating 70% of our food through various educational apiaries where young and old can begin for the first time in this adventurous world.

Where you'll be
Dedicated to agro-silvo-pastoral activity, the Quinta represents an important heritage, both in the structural organization of the landscape, compartmentalization and rational use, as well as in the presence of ruins of cultural and architectural value. Human intervention in this area - which is in the transition between the urban area and the Serra de Sintra - resulted in the emergence of new habitats and ecological niches, which are today important for the preservation of nature.
