Robert has completed part of his studies, Environmental Science, Holland (graduated in 2011), in Ghana and Brazil. After this period, he continued traveling, learned Spanish and completed a Permaculture Design Course in Nicaragua (2014). Robert established his project in July 2017 and registered it as a foundation: Biodiverse Development Foundation (BDF).

In December of 2017 he meets Maricela (local resident) who also participates in the project from that moment. Maricela is one of the initiators of the local Mountain Market, with a lot of knowledge about nature, culture, health, etc.

BDF is convinced to offer you an unforgettable experience, preserve biodiversity and stimulate the local socio-economic environment. BDF has developed the project and offers the Ecotour to the Waterfall.

It was a great experience. I felt immerse in Robert's explanation of the area and his experience. I was also able to meet some great friends of Roberts. The waterfall was amazing.

This was one of the most confusing experiences I've had through Airbnb. First off, it isn't clear on here that 90% of the time on this trip is not on the actual property of the Eco/Biodiversity Farm, it's hiking through public forests, somebody's personal property, finally to the farm and the rest is going downhill on a public paved road back to town to catch the bus. The day starts by meeting at a bread shop to take a public jeep-style bus 45 minutes into the mountains. They incorrectly told us to meet at 7am for a 7:40am bus, when in reality the bus left at 7am (there was no room when we arrived) so we had to wait until the next bus at 8:40am. We had also expected a guide who spoke English, as the experience states English and Spanish, and all prior communications were in English. Because of the bus incident, our experience lasted from 7am-4pm, but it really could have been done by noon if we had not missed our bus and did not need to go as slow as our guide wanted to. Martha was perfectly nice but in no way a professional guide and didn't speak a single word of English (or if she does, she didn't try at all with us). She even left us at the waterfall to eat lunch with people she ran into. She was too busy to take a simple photo of us so we had to ask other visitors. She did the hike with her phone in hand and stopped whenever there was service to text, which also completely stopped the hike. Also stopped along houses or shops to catch up with friends as we stood there waiting to continue the walk. My boyfriend and I were fed up with it towards the end and would continue on without her as she stayed behind to text or chat. It probably ended up costing us at least 45 minutes. We arrived for lunch at the biodiversity location which consisted of boiled vegetables and a slab of meat. We were fine with it but it's good to set expectations. When we finished lunch, we were ready to head back but it seemed Martha was in charge of babysitting the other woman's daughter, and we weren't allowed to leave. It was truly baffling. The unprofessional aspect may have been bearable if we hadn't started the day waiting for almost two hours, could hike at a reasonable pace and didn't need to delay our day to babysit. They have the ingredients for an incredible experience but need to trim the fat. Have the accurate bus schedule, assure there's no waiting around for the guide, and in general be more diligent with the schedule.

This experience was absolutely amazing. We communicated with one of the hosts ahead of time and had them pick us up and take us back to our hotel ($30US each way because it is quite a distance from Cali) and when we arrived, the center was really gorgeous. Our hike with our hosts' cousin was wonderful - he was very kind and pointed out different parts of the walk (in Spanish) and led us to a beautiful house/overlook where we had coffee before going to a waterfall. The family at the house was so warm and kind and we ended up taking lots of pictures together...they exemplified Colombian warmth and hospitality. Everything about this was wonderful. We would do it again in heartbeat. The only thing I would make other guests aware of is that I don't speak Spanish and my friend only spoke a little...we were ok with this, but without her, it would have been really difficult. If you are only comfortable having someone available with English language skills, this is not for you. I am so glad we did this trip and highly recommend it.
