What you'll do

Snap your way through iconic Kalk Bay

Meeting for a coffee, or the like, at one of the many coffee shops, I'll get to know your expectations & photo experience. Our photowalk will take us down colorful narrow allies, into quirky shops and/or include some invariably entertaining engagements with the colorful locals at the harbor. Photo coaching & extending your camera skills along the way are part of this experience, should this be required. We’ll review your photos over another cuppa afterwards. I have limited the numbers on the photowalk to just 2 so I can give you my undivided attention. Let me know if you want to increase this number to include friends or family and I'll happily do so. Likewise if you want to change the time of the experience I'm more than happy to accommodate that - sunrises are beautiful from Kalk Bay. :-) And likewise if the weather turns out not conducive to good photography we can reschedule to a suitable time for you.

My time with Stephen was really pleasant and insightful. We met directly at the Hout Bay Harbour and after a short chat to get to know each other and align on the plan for the morning, we went out to practice. Stephen could answer all my questions and helped me to evaluate and try different compositions and camera settings. It was very nice to end the morning with a coffee together and go over the photos in LightRoom. I learned a few new tricks and got instant feedback on the photos we took before, which was really helpful. I highly recommend Stephen if you want to advance your photography skills or just spend a pleasant morning in Hout Bay with a super friendly local :-)

I had a good experience with Stephen. He helped me explore good angles to take shots and also gave me tips on what makes a photo look good. I also learned that even photos that are not so well taken could be enhanced in Lightroom with a little cropping or color adjustment. We did the experience on a cloudy morning but Stephen did his best to help me take the best photos from the available light and adjust the camera settings to compensate for the lack of light. Basically, I leaned how to shoot in difficult conditions, which is a good skill to pick up. Overall, it was a good experience and I’d highly recommend anyone to take his photo workshop!

Stephen was both a congenial and highly knowledgeable photography coach. He was patient and able to explain the different aspects in enough detail for me to try his suggestions right away. He is able to assess where you are at and move you forward. So worthwhile!!!

We started earlier assuming we would get a sunrise but we got heavy cloud. However, Stephen was still able to make the morning very interesting. We managed to use the camera in lots of different ways to produce some lovely shots and as an intermediate I was able to learn plenty. Then we went for coffee and went through the photos and I learnt on lightrroom a couple of those odd little things that I couldn’t work out. So all in all a lovely morning with Stephen, some chatter, some learning , and some great photos.

Stephen gave me some good pointers/tips which I am going to take forward. The Lightroom demo was most revealing; I never appreciated the power of the software nor the ease of operation; I am going to follow-up there! I admire Stephen's appreciation of the right photographic moment and he certainly does live in a photographers paradise. Most of all, we really enjoyed being with Stephen as he shared insights that only a photographer living in and in love with your surrounds could.
