What you'll do

We'll sort out the truly genuine & quality local deli-ish food treats.

Food is part of the Portugal experience.

But not any food anywhere.

To get 'the' experience, you need to know what's the best version of what's good where & where to find it.

That is a work in progress for the Portuguese themselves - we have running contests for everything from roasted piglet to pastries.

And that is also true for what doubles as 'the' Portugal food experience-sharing souvenirs:

Neat bite-size traditional sweet to savory bombshells that stand alone/keep/travel fine.

In Faro you're spoiled for local treats - and offer:

World-famous canned fish, its shady dry cousin, elaborate conventual to popular sweets, spirits, dry fruit&nuts, fleur de sel.

Honey, olive oil, water!

Potatoes :)

And myriad places carrying myriads - including what isn't even regional/central/iconic.

I'll take you on an in-the-know hunting round for what's actually local/worthy of your attention. And money.

Specific products, specific vendors/venues, conspicuous to hidden backstreet places.

I'll also direct you to what to buy where for a key low cost/high quality tasting of the quirkiest.

Unveil some making of.

Contextualize all.

A wider tutorial on the 'other' Portugal food experience.

The unsung, undefined, otherwise unknowable one :)

I am petite but have a lot of storage :)

For 11 years I wrote/edited on worldwide Travel/Architecture/lifestyle for international media of record.

Was billed 'the queen of food'/of 'great taste' for my scouting of neatly packaged deli treats.

Was born/lived only ever in Lisbon - but have family/had holidays in the Algarve from birth.

Quit the press in 2011.

Interior design on own account of 21 years took over.

Faro is a return point for Interiors projects from 2000.

My friends get/laud my exclusive Algarve treat gifts from shortly after :)

My Airbnb Experiences, born in 2019, are part of my now much vaster sideline in 'Travel on the Ground.

Mag/newspaper/book-writing/editing/thinking in good:

Light/live/one-one-ish.

I run on enthusiasm & substance :)

Where you'll be

We'll meet at the lean clean municipal market.

Sort through fresh fish/veggies for 6-7 vendors/own production/homemade/genuine. Iconic/dug out.

Walk downtown to Faro's inconspicuous 'it' pastry shop. 1-2 encompassing spirits venues. The nookie first & 'hip' latest local foods gourmet places in town.

Stop at 1-2 hidden/undiscovered shops. 3 supermarket corners. 2 gems in the in-your-face foods-souvenir place.

Trace further visits of interest.

My wife, 16month old daughter and I had a wonderful day with Claudia. It felt like the tour began from the time of the booking. Claudia was always quick to respond to questions. She made some excellent restaurant recommendations. Highly recommended!

The Foods tour with Claudia was absolutely amazing!!!! Not only was there exceptional information shared during the tour, but there were also small treats and surprises that made it feel so special. Plus, Claudia spent time with us recommending things to do and taste in the days after our trip. Absolutely amazing and highly recommended. We started as “guests” and left as friends. Take this tour!! 💜💜💜

Such an amazing adventure. Let’s start with pre- experience: Claudia was quite prepared for any concerns I had regarding corona virus and ensured all my questions were answered. Her knowledge and preparation truly put my mind at ease. Additionally, prior to the experience she communicated with me regularly (understanding that not speaking Portuguese I was at a disadvantage in keeping up with the news. Her punctuality was great as were her thorough directions! We started in the market and it was fantastic t earn so much about the food, culture, area, and general “life” in Portugal. We traveled from the municipal market to a local market to learn more about canned tunas, and sardines, and waters. Something that seems taken for granted but was so informative! Shopping in a different country can be intimidating occasionally - not any more! We traveled to a bakery - enjoying the delicious bread now, a specialty shop, a wine shop and a beautiful cafe. So many amazing places and so much knowledge shared. While sitting enjoying lemon tea and desserts (brilliant) I got out my pen (or cell phone actually) and began taking notes of all the places I need to see while here. I look forward to joining Claudia on her experience in Lisbon next month. Don’t miss this amazing opportunity. I have done many Air BnB experiences. This was by far the best!
