What you'll do

Lets enjoy and learn about the culture and music of Cartagena. This is more about how we live in Cartagena de indias and how we are happy through the music. Cartagena is a city very influenced by others parts of the world. Being a harbor is the reason so, what do you know about the real Cartagena?, how do we live?, how we are making a living?, how we speak?, HOW WE DANCE?, all that you will live it in this experience. We will learn about the influence of the African music and how the locals today enjoy the variations of these rhythms, today parents of the Champeta. We will start by visiting the market of Bazurto, mirror of the culture of Cartagena, where we will study the history of the champeta, we will know how it is promoted in particular by Runner, the big boss as it is called and all about Sounds systems that amplify the music in the neighborhoods, then we will go to a regular neighborhood to see how the sound system of champeta in Cartagena influence in the culture and we will learn to dance Champeta trying local beers and a local desert, then we'll walk in the middle of the neighborhood knowing the history of the champeta home, discovering how in each corner there are meetings around the music, we'll dance, taste local beers and enjoy the local music to the fullest with local people

Hello!
I'm Danny, a young student of Business managment, born and raised in la Maria neighborhood, just in a side of Bazurto Market, home of Champeta music and the biggest sound system of Champeta, the king of Rocha.

Over the years I have visited different cities of the country looking for new experiences and rubbing with new cultures, in all those trips I could identify that we are different but equal in all Colombia. Now all that i want to do is to show the culture of the Cartagena people and how the locals are living dayly with their music, traditions, meals and more.

Daniel gave me my greatest experience in Cartagena. Intelligent and charismatic, he explained everything from the history of Cartagena's walls, to the lesser known history of its local communities, local beers and liquors, to the history of the people, music, and artists that Cartagenans love. I was safe and welcomed into Daniel's world and introduced me to a side of Cartagena that I know that the vast majority of tourists never have the opportunity to see. If you are tired of boring one-sided yours or if you want to experience how the "locals" live, or if you want to have a full experience of the vibrant culture in Cartagena, stop waiting and book him!

Great experience with Danny. Felt like I got to truly experience Cartagena as a local. To anyone who is concerned about safety, do not listen to what some people may tell you about the bazurto market. At no point did I feel unsafe. The market was very welcoming and the food was great! A must see when in Cartagena!

If you want to be in a real neighborhood and home, learning about the roots of local Colombian society and culture, do this experience! We saw the market, learned all about Colombian music, met a DJ and a famous Colombian artist, learned to dance, and then went to Daniel’s home and had food cooked by his family! It was such a meaningful experience, and everyone was super friendly and welcoming. We felt so fortunate to spend our day with Daniel in his neighborhood and not just walking around tourist areas.
