What you'll do
Together we'll explore and examine the contemporary architecture of Rome! Taking the tram down Via Flaminia we'll walk in the extraordinary urban landscape of Auditorium Parco della Musica. If we fancy a break we can stop for an artisan gelato or coffee before heading towards MAXXI, the National Centre for Contemporary Arts, where we'll once again take in the magnificent contemporary architecture, talking about its creation and how it fits within the surrounding ancient city, before going inside to investigate some of their permanent collection. We will use a new approach to try and make sense of contemporary art and architecture and find its place in our society and in Rome, as we can all find art a bit bewildering at times! To finish off, we'll head to a great little spot across the bridge in Ponte Milvio for a delicious Roman 'streetfood' lunch.
I worked at MAXXI and with an organisation ARTandSEEK for kids where we give workshops and events about contemporary art. A qualified arts manager, I've also organised interactive art exhibitions and events hosting artists from all over the country. I really love getting people to interact and engage with art and architecture and to break down the alienation and confusion we sometimes feel in art galleries!
Traditional Streetfood A delicious speciality 'Trapizzino' to eat and if you like a drop of wine!
Entry to MAXXI museum We will enter the permanent collection on the ground floor
tram ticket if needed If you arrive by metro or bus to Piazza del Popolo, just keep your ticket as it's valid for 100 minutes

Where you'll be
We'll go just out of the historic centre to the Auditorium 'Park of Music' and then to MAXXI, the National Centre for Contemporary Arts & Architecture designed by Zaha Hadid. They have many changing exhibition galleries but for the focus of our visit we will explore the permanent collection and maybe the video gallery. These are two of the most extraordinary examples of contemporary architecture and offer a real alternative view of Rome!
