What you'll do

With an experienced guide, you will explore Niagara history, where key events of the War of 1812 took place; visit Fort George, Niagara on the Lake, Queenston Heights and the Brock monument, Beaverdams, the Decew site, end point of Laura Secord's courageous trek to warn the British of impending attack. I include sites of historical and maritime interest around the Welland Canal. Our visit will feature a stop at 2-4 Niagara wineries or a craft brewery, a lunch stop at a recommended café/restaurant (or a picnic stop, weather permitting).
Our meeting spot: main parking lot in the village of Jordan, across from Cave Springs Winery/ Inn on the Twenty. You can pick up a sandwich lunch/pastry at De La Terre bakery.
La narration peut se faire entièrement en français.

The tour will take 4-5 hours, depending on traffic/duration of lunch/winery/site stops. For groups over 4 people, you can follow in your own car (for a small discount).

Please note: the tour is open to anyone aged 12 years and up, but for winery/craft brewery visit, remember that consumption/sampling of any alcoholic beverage is restricted to persons of age 19 and over.
Additional note: Due to Covid-19, many restaurants and wineries are either closed or have restricted business hours; most museums including Fort George are closed until further notice, so I have adapted the tour to try to accommodate these factors.

I am a retired History teacher and wine enthusiast, completely fluent in French/English (some Italian and German as well). For over 30 years, I led/organized and guided student and adult trips focusing on History (and wine !) in Canada, the USA, France, Italy, Greece, Germany, Belgium and Russia. I work in a Niagara area winery, have guided friends on visits of War of 1812 sites, and I am well acquainted with many of Niagara's best wineries. I am a passionate History buff, especially when it involves sites with a military connection, and love to share this interest.

Dan is one of those rare guides that you wouod love to find but seldom encounter. His incredible teaching experience and his Master of Arts in history, coupled with his enthusiasm and kindness, makes him an incredible guide. We learned things about the region that we somehow never discovered on our own, despite having toured the region multiple times. Dan is a lovely human to boot. He is very easy to talk to, and impressively proactive in calling ahead, making arrangements, and adapting on the fly. The cherry on top: Dan is a wine conoseur who works at a wonderful winery. It doesnt get any better then this.

Dan was a wonderful host. My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our day of touring the Niagara Region with him. It’s obvious that he has a passion for both history and wine and that made for a very insightful, stimulating tour. We learned a great deal throughout the day and Dan’s really good at keeping the conversation flowing naturally. It felt like we’d known him forever despite having just met. We’d highly recommend this tour to anyone who likes wine, history or just good conversation and learning all sorts of new things. This tour was the highlight of our trip!

My boyfriend and I took part in Dan's history and wine tour as part of our weekend getaway to Niagara, and it was hands down the highlight of our trip! Dan is not only incredibly knowledgeable about the war of 1812 (in addition to many other historic topics), but he also knows a great deal about wines & Niagara wineries. His experience living in different countries around the world and the stories he shared with us really enhanced the tour. Our expectations were exceeded! Within the first few moments of meeting Dan, it felt like we've known him for a long time. His passion for history and wine, along with his ability to incorporate our own interests and preferences into the tour, made this experience truly amazing! I would recommend this experience to anyone who would like to learn about Niagara's rich history, taste some of Niagara's best wines, and have some great conversations along the way!
