What you'll do

Meet your guide at an easy-to-find central location then explore the quaint neighborhoods and streets of Shanghai by foot. We only try the best local food in the city at places where only locals go that are truly off the beaten path. These are family-run restaurants that you can't find on your own. Between food stops, chat with your guide about the city while drinking unlimited local beer and soda.

While visiting our 4 food stops, hear stories about the families that have been making their specialties for generations. Learn about the foods that locals love and why they became so popular as each dish, restaurant and neighborhood is explained by your guide. Watch Shanghai's most famous dish, soup dumplings, prepared fresh to order at our favorite dumpling shop in town. Then try a few traditional Shanghainese dishes such as braised pork belly at a bustling local hangout. Slurp down the city's most popular noodle dishes in a hidden local shop that's been serving the same recipe for decades.

Finally, finish the night after 3.5 hours at a family-friendly pub for a pint of small-batch, locally brewed beer.

Where you'll be

Most of the places that we visit on the tour are small family-run eateries that are open for a long time and frequented by locals. We visit the same eateries every night on the tour so we know that the food is safe and consistent in quality. The bar that we visit at the end of the tour is family friendly.

Ok tour, nice people in it. Description a bit bait-and-switchy. Instead of friends "Ruixi, Nicole, Sherry & Sabrina" it's arranged by "Lost Plate Food Tours" and is a bit more corporate than expected.

I was alone, a little bit nervous about meeting new friends. However, the food tour was so great with active host and many small groups of outgoing people. The local food was great from an appetizer to a dessert and drinks. Thanks for making a good memory in Shanghai.
