What you'll do

We’ll meet up at a lightly traveled trailhead in a quiet North Phoenix neighborhood about a half hour before sundown.
From there, we’ll hike a little less than a mile to a scenic, quiet perch where we’ll watch a spectacular Arizona sunset.
Along the way, I’ll point out some cool tidbits about desert plants and animals.
A little later we’ll witness a magnificent full moon rise from the eastern skyline.
With the moon lighting our path, we’ll return to the starting point and say our goodbyes.
This entire, unforgettable experience lasts a total of about 90 minutes.
If you need tips for a cool place nearby for dinner or drinks, I can give you a local’s take.

Since moving to Arizona in 2012 I’ve logged hundreds of miles on hiking trails and byways. After one particular hike to the falls of Havasupai in the Grand Canyon, I became obsessed with exploring the many natural wonders of Arizona.

Now I love sharing some of my most fascinating discoveries with others.

Where you'll be

We’ll start out on a nice, gentle trail. Depending on your fitness ability and interest, we’ll continue on a moderately graded trail or hike up a steeper one, if you’re up for it. Steeper = better views.
I’ve built in time for a few breaks to rest or take pics.

Paul was a wonderful experience host! Very knowledgeable of the land and super friendly. Even though the weather didn’t work out as expected this time, Paul still made the hike a great time! I would recommend this to anyone

This was a magical experience, despite the fact that we didn’t see the moon because of the clouds. Paul was an excellent guide and made sure everyone was keeping up. He was obviously very familiar with the trail. It was an easy hike that almost anyone can do.

Paul is a kind, patient expert on hiking, flora, and fauna. He made this little group of ours (all total strangers to one another) feel like a real friend group. He offered to take our photos for us, had climbing sticks for those with balance issues and/or anxiety about the incline, and kept us all laughing. I'd follow him on a hike any day!

A surprising location for a mountain preserve right in the middle of the greater Phoenix conurbation. Paul was very friendly and took into account different levels of ability, making it accessible to a wide range of people.

Paul does a great job of explaining hiking in the preserve and what to expect... also the variety of vegetation in the desert... the only unfortunate... uncontrollable aspect of the hike were the clouds which prevented us from seeing the moon rise from the horizon... yet we were able to see it through the clouds as it rose higher.
