What you'll do

We're vaccinated for your safety and peace of mind!
If you've ever dreamed of sailing in a tropical paradise, we can help you get a great start to achieve that dream!
From the very start you'll be on our stable and comfortable 36' Sabre sailboat, Condor. We'll jump right in with a little hands-on theory and terminology. Then we'll cover the important safety information and head out into Baltimore harbor. We will steer Condor out away from the dock, and then hand her over to you and your fellow students. Under our watchful and encouraging direction, you will be sailing! Just the wind and the sails and you!
You and the other students will rotate through each position on the boat. You will be steering and hoisting and trimming sails, putting the theory you just learned to practical use. We limit the class size to five students to ensure that everyone gets sufficient hands-on time to learn and practice and ask questions.
During this class, you'll learn basic sailing theory, terminology, and how to steer, hoist sails, trim sails, and tack.
You will also have the opportunity to see many of the famous (and not so famous) Baltimore waterfront landmarks.
Other things to note
We're sailing on the 36' sailboat so it's not likely you'll get wet (unless it is raining). We will sail in light rain, but not in thunderstorms. Come ready to learn and have fun!

I am the founder and director of SeaAffinity, Inc, a Baltimore based non-profit that combines my two passions of sailing and helping people learn. My wife, Suzanne, and I learned to sail over 20 years ago, on small boats. Since then, we have owned and sailed close to 50 different boats of all sizes in the Chesapeake and the Caribbean, and delivered sailboats on the east coast.
I am certified as a US Sailing Instructor, Instructor Trainer, and Master Instructor Trainer, and a member of US Sailing's National Faculty, the group that develops and writes US Sailing's training materials.

Where you'll be

Look for our boat with the SeaAffinity banner behind the tall red brick smokestack at Tindeco Wharf.
We start our experience in the Canton area of Baltimore, adjacent to the Canton Waterfront Park and the Korean War Memorial, just across the harbor from historic Fort McHenry. You'll see the industrial side of Baltimore's harbor as well Domino Sugar, Under Armor's headquarters, and even Baltimore's own Statue of Liberty!

Our time aboard Condor was fantastic. Steve and Suzanne were great teachers and excellent company for the morning. We learned a ton and look forward to exploring sailing more with them in the future.

Steve and Suzanne are wonderful teachers, sailors and hosts - they patiently answer your questions, provide additional helpful insights, and provide training suited to the experience level and learning aptitude of their students. Couldn't have asked for better crew-mates on my continuing sailing education. Thanks for a great learning experience!!

We had a fantastic time and highly recommend this excursion! Steve and crew presented a lesson at a level the was appropriate for our family; they were very patient and responsive. We very much felt like we left with a solid, rudimentary knowledge of sailing, as we expected from the experience. Also, Steve and crew are very interesting people! It was nice to meet with them, talk with them about their ventures, and witness their love for sailing and sailing education.
