What you'll do

Along the way I often stopped at a small buffet for a special syrup-sweetened tea and a typical Slovak waffle bar or boiled sausage with mustard and bread. Sometimes it was possible to find mushrooms in the forest, too.

Nowadays when I want to spend some time in nature, I usually go with a friend or a colleague to a shelter for unwanted dogs and help out by taking one or two of the dogs for a walk.

We pass a large shoping centre and in 15 min. we find ourselves in a forest with nice creek and several ponds. Small "euroarboretum" introduces us to the topic of forests in Europe. We take a small refreshment in a buffet and continue our walk around three ponds with carp fishes. On the way we stop by a bunker from the WWI. You will see the traces of local fauna, listen to the songs of the birds ...

Would you like to share this experience with me and see where Bratislava locals go to jog, have barbeques, paddle small boats on lakes in summer and even ski in winter?

I’d be very happy for you to join me :-)

I am a true socialistic guy born in 1975. I have been raised partially in socialistic system and followed my secondary and university education in the freshly capitalistic 90´s. I am keen on 20 th century history and changes. I passed exams for a tour guide in 1995 but I really started to guide tourists just in 2014 when I decided to change a little bit my carrier.

It has already been five years since my German Shepherd passed away and went to dog heaven. I used to walk him nearly every weekend in local recreational areas.

This was a unique experience to get some fresh air and exercise in the wooded hills around Bratislava with some furry friends! Erich was kind, friendly and knowledgeable. We both enjoyed walking the dogs while spending time in nature and learning about Bratislava. Would recommend insect repellent or long sleeve clothing; the mosquitoes were plentiful!

Myself and my boyfriend went with Erich for a dog walk in January 2020. We met at the Tesco for collection and Erich was there waiting for us. We then went to the shelter, had a short look around, and were allocated two dogs that needed a walk. It was remarkable on a winter's day how many locals were enjoying walking the dogs. Although you didn't choose the dogs Erich was able to accommodate the correct dog for each person. My boyfriend is not very experienced so got an older dog who did not pull. We then took the dogs on a forest walk around some lakes, very pretty indeed, befoe a tea and snack at a small cafe stop before heading home. It was nice to be able to speak to Erich for insights into life in Slovakia and Bratislava in particular.

Highly recommended, definitely something that u will not experience elsewhere. Erich is a amazing person who provides tons of information about Bratislava’s history. The tour is totally worth it. Personally, i will try this again if I went to Bratislava in the future. One small tip: maybe choose a smaller dog and a good weather to do it.

This is an experience you won't find elsewhere. You have an opportunity to connect with the animal caring community, enjoy spending time with an animal, and walk in a beautiful nature preserve close in to the city.

Really wonderful way to see a part of Bratislawa we otherwise wouldn't have. The dogs were wonderful and Erich is very friendly and knows his stuff. Would definitely recommend this if you are staying in Bratislawa for a few days. Only bad part was having to say goodbye to the dogs!!
