What you'll do

We will begin our tour in the harbor, board a small ferry known as Regla´s ferry to cross the bay, seven minutes away, to a little town far from Havana’s well-known touristic places. We’ll walk down its ancient streets, and I will tell you about Regla’s history, its diverse religions and traditions, its rustic constructions and forgotten buildings. On the way, you’ll enter into the daily local life of a Havana invisible to most. I will take you to an ancient bodega (small market for locals) from the 1800´s, to the produce market, to Regla’s iconic church and other highlights of this town. We will have a little appetizer in a family house to regain our strength and end the tour back at the ferry to the little town history forgot. My co-host Sanfor Lezcano Perdomo will accompany us.

I am a young Cuban woman with a law degree and I love the cultural mix of my country. For years I have been working in street theater, sharing the life and emotions of the most hidden places of the city. Ever since I moved to this small community just outside of Havana, called Regla, a place ignored in the city’s history, I felt it was my calling to show others the traditions of this extraordinary place. I love to share what it really means to be a Cuban and I want the whole world to understand what this means.

Where you'll be

We will visit a market from the 1800's with all the original walls and equips, a fishermans church near the bay, places that seems to be frozen in time and where the old things, are the new hope.

If you want a totally different experience of Havana, this is the trip for you! After the brief ferry ride, you will be immersed in a very different culture. There is much to see and learn and the hosts are very knowledgeable as well as personable and friendly! We enjoyed every minute - including the delicious snacks! You will have a great day!

I met with Beatriz and her friend for the tour, they arrived on time. We went across the bay form Havana to Regla on the tiny ferry. As it is so difficult to know the (simple) rules of payment for the ferry its a trip that I would not have done by myself. In Regla we visited the interesting church and then walked along the main street, the town has a different vibe to Havana and it did not quite feel like Cuba. The market was interesting and then we walked to a large home of a friend of Beatrix. This was very relaxing where we compared cultures and music, and had some nice food and drink. I would recommend this tour on the basis of meeting such nice people and visiting somewhere off track to Havana.

This is the second time I booked this experience and my group loved the time we spent with Beatriz. The Ferry ride across the bay is wonderful and walking around Regla is an wonderful experience. We got to meet local people and hear about the history of Regla. Then we went to her friends house and Maria and Beatriz made incredible snacks and drinks. I can not imagine coming to Cuba and not do this experience.

The tour of Regla that Beatriz does is amazing. We started on the "lanchita," the water taxi from Havana's waterfront, and spent the rest of the time walking slowly through the town. This little city feels like it is really not part of Havana in a cultural sense. It feels like a different world, slower paced and friendly. Beatriz knows her city and the tour shows that. Seeing the architecture, going to the local market, hearing about Santeria, meeting shopkeepers and finally having a great meal before getting on the cab/bus back to my BnB was a wonderful way to spend a morning.

We are really glad that we have booked this trip with Beatriz! We had such a wonderful time and got into many deep conversations that you cannot find elsewhere. Information about Cuba that we got to know from this trip, is actually much much more than what we have learned in our other two days of trip in Havana. I truly feel like I have had a look at real Cuban people’s life after this trip. They are more like friends showing you around their hometown, rather than tour guides reciting stories or history. It was a unique and informative experience, I definitely recommend booking this!

Would highly recommend this if you have the time. They were fantastic guides and incredibly down to earth people. The guide was grounded in reality rather than trying to create something fake for tourists. Its an amazing area to visit.
