What you'll do

As a local Shanghainese, I have seen Shanghai change a lot in three decades. Now it's more metropolis than old Shanghai style, and more high-rise instead of shantytown. I will take you to discover the real Shanghai.

For morning tour, you will taste the local breakfast—choose from wanton soup, Dwarf’s sweet pie, egg pancake, sticky rice roll. Then heading to bird market, you will have the chance to see precious markets and learn about the rich culture of cricket fighting, Chinese bonsai, and oriole birds. After that, we will visit a 700-year old Confucian temple. Confucius is considered the greatest of the ancient Chinese sages. You will learn about Confucian doctrine and experience a Confucian tea ceremony. Finally, we will try one of the best dumpling soups in town.

For the afternoon tour, you have a chance to taste the most famous noodles restaurant in town as lunch, it attracts numerous local people to come just for a taste. Choose as you like.next visit 700-year old Confucian temple with tea ceremony inside. Then continue to bird markets, to see cricket fighting, Chinese bonsai, oriole birds, turtle. In the end we will also try some delicious street food .

Our family of four had a great experience with Lynn walking through the old parts of Shanghai. First, she took us to the bird market to view all of the animals and plants for sale. It was a fun insight in to the local culture. From there, we ate some delicious noodles at a popular local spot. Lynn then took us to the Confucius temple and gave an extremely informative commentary which ended with a tea ceremony. We then went to one final stop at a steamed dumpling spot for the best dumplings that we ate all week. Lynn was so warm and welcoming and did everything she could to make us and especially our teenaged kids feel welcome. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to understand a little more about Shanghai beyond the Bund and the skyscrapers.

This was a great way to see Shanghai. We met up early with our guide and it turned out to be just my group of two on the tour that morning. It felt like we had a private tour guide. Grabbing breakfast on the go felt like a real authentic local experience. The temple and the tea ceremony were were so interesting and the soup dumpling place was truly a local experience like no other. We would not have been able to replicate this experience on our own. Our guide was kind and funny and so knowledgeable about the area and the people. We ended up teaching each other common phrases and words in English and in Chinese and in that respect, it truly felt like a cultural exchange. She even went out of her way to take us to post office and translate for us so that we could send our post cards and she walked us to the train afterward and made sure we knew where we were going. We were so so happy!
