What you'll do

Let me pick you up and transport you to this tranquil and iconic valley. This new route for 2020 is a relatively easy and flat 3.5 mile walk which demonstrates the beauty of the river Wye Valley and includes entry into the majestic Tintern Abbey. There are undoubtedly few rivers in the UK that come anywhere near to the beauty of the River Wye. The fifth longest river in the UK rises in the remote uplands of Mid Wales and flows through often mind-blowing scenery to the Severn Estuary. You will walk through ancient woodland and along the banks of the picturesque river to the almost 900 year old Tintern Abbey, one of the most impressive ancient monuments in Wales. The walk passes through historic villages where you will stop to take pictures and visit tea rooms.
Other things to note
Guests need to be comfortable walking for 3.5 miles on grass/mud paths

A raincoat and walking footwear are recommended

The total duration of the walk including transport from the Cardiff area is approximately 5.5 hours

Where you'll be

The walk begins at the Old Station Tintern, an old railway station that has been refurbished as a tourist attraction. You will then proceed along the river Wye to the pretty village of Tintern, stopping at an ancient church and mill. You will then proceed to the spectacular Abbey where you will enter the Abbey and marvel at its relatively intact architecture. The walk then proceeds through old forest to an historic village and back to the start.

Like the description and other reviews said, this hike is definitely a medium-high level high as most of the time, you will be walking uphill to a view point called “Devil’s Pulpit”. However, Andy’s such a great host—he’s knowledgeable and always up to a good banter so the hike went by so fast! Also, he’ll pick you up from where you’re staying and take you back home so transportation wasn’t a problem! 10/10 would go again! Next time I’d love to go on a different trail.

This is definitely a moderate to high physical activity hike with big steps and lots of mud if it's been raining. Beautiful views and well worth the trip and experience. FYI, you will need cash or credit card for snack and 7.20£ for the Abbey entrance fee, which is well worth cost of admission. Would not have done on my own and Andy had special local knowledge.
