What you'll do
Finding wild mushrooms is a dynamic challenge. We'll start with an overview of what species should be fruiting at the time, as well as learning about environmental indicators (symbiotic trees and plants) and in what kind of places they are likely to be found. With that we'll head off into the forest and fields with baskets and knives. We'll spend as many hours as there are mushrooms gathering both edible and non-edible varieties for identification back at the farm. When we return home we'll identify what we've found and put them to use. Some we'll dry for you to take home, some we'll cook, and some we might even turn into art or medicine.
I've been harvesting wild edibles for 20+ years and have published articles and booklets on identifying common edible mushrooms in the northeast. Having lived in Vermont all my life, I've accumulated plenty of good spots for foraging and am in tune with what grows where, when. I also am an Airbnb host! Stay with our family in Hartland as part of your experience and enjoy the historic Spooner House: https://www.airbnb.com/users/44626157/listings
I'll provide baskets, knives, and bug spray if we need it. If you have a favorite knife and basket please bring them!
