What you'll do

Get out of the big city and discover the joys of photography in Tacoma. I'm an award-winning travel photographer, and I'd like to show you my hometown - historic buildings, modern architecture, glass-blowing, boats and ships, the waterfront and public gardens, and of course, amazing views of Mount Rainier. We'll spend an afternoon and evening exploring this wonderful little city on south Puget Sound.

I'll lead you on a personal photographic workshop and give you a local's insight into Seattle's little sister to the south. All levels of photographers are welcome. For newbies shooting with a smartphone, I'll teach you tricks to better photography. For pros shooting with the latest DSLR, I'll show you some great viewpoints.
Other things to note
Bring your own camera. You'll need to arrange your own transportation to Tacoma; Sound Transit routes 590/594 from Seattle drop off at our meeting spot. The cost of dinner is not provided.

I'm a travel photographer, and though I've written a photo and touring guide about Seattle, Tacoma is my home town. I shoot with Canon equipment, but actually do have Nikon and Sony users as friends.

Where you'll be

Our photo walk will be in downtown Tacoma and along the Tacoma waterfront, with some great views of Mount Rainier (weather permitting). We'll start on Pacific Avenue, go down by the Glass Museum, and along the waterfront. We may also drive out to Ruston Way and Dune Park for more waterfront views and/or visit Point Defiance Park with its many gardens, ferry landing, beaches, wildlife, and viewpoints of the Olympic mountains.

Alice
July 2018
Highly recommend. I’m from DC and I enjoyed a Saturday in July, when Seattle would have be swarming with other tourists, in the peaceful environment of Takoma. Joe helped me learn more about my camera in the manual mode, encouraged me to try different settings. He’d quickly look up how to use the settings on my camera so now I’m less intimidated by the 100 page user manual. I may get the hang of it yet! Plus, he is a fun guy to spend the evening with.
