About your host
I have 18 years blacksmithing experience beginning at UNC through the College of Architecture. Also, I have completed numerous Bladesmith courses and have been teaching for two years with over two hundred students.

What we’ll do
The class is four to five hours in length and will begin with a 45 minutes instruction and demonstration covering five to seven basic metal working techniques as well as learning to work with a coal fired forge and bellows. The remainder of the class is for hands on experience and is great for anyone who is willing to try something new and exciting. You will leave with a unique finished product…

All safety equipment and metal are provided.
What to bring
Bring food and beverages if you would like. Must wear closed toed shoes and natural fibers such as cotton, denim, and flannel.

Where you'll be
The class is conducted on the historic grounds of Poplar Grove Plantation. You are free to enjoy the grounds during our breaks or join for a separate fee and tour the house and barnyard. There are several period correct buildings on the property. There is also a basket weaving gallery on the property.
