I am a recent transplant to RVA, and have not explored Jackson Ward at all until this tour. Such an interesting, beautiful neighborhood. Cherita knew so much of the history and how it related to present-day issues in the neighborhood. You could tell she loves the people and the place. I learned so much, AND had fun. Would highly recommend to tourists or locals alike.

Our group of people of mixed ages and hometowns (RVA and not) learned more about some of the history of Jackson Ward with Cherita. She has done her homework and was honest when she was not sure of some bit of specificity that we asked. She brought together geopolitical history of Richmond from reconstruction, segregation, and desegregation periods to today, and wove in architectural and cultural arts history also. We were a mixed group of people that could hear and Deaf folks (with an interpreter as one of us), and we were delighted that Cherita easily flexed to do things like move sightlines and pause her descriptions, and even greeted us with some basic ASL! Highly recommended.

A great introduction to the history of Jackson Ward from Maggie Walker to Gwar (!) Cherita's tour is meticulously planned, detailed and mapped out - and yet it felt like a relaxed stroll with a (very informative) friend. Would definitely recommend booking onto this tour to meet Cherita, see great street art and hear vital stories of the trauma, defiance and community which have characterised this district.

Cherita provides a fabulous tour with lots of knowledge of the area. She shared stories of the neighborhood documented my history as well as those only known by being involved in the community. I recommend this tour to anyone wanting an often missing part of the well told history of Richmond.

Cherita's presentation was insightful. Her tour was the last event of our Richmond weekend and she was able to fill in the gaps that were missing for us. She single-handedly brought our adventure full circle. Her tour is a MUST see.

Cherita is a great tour guide! I went on two tours with her while I was in Richmond and thoroughly enjoyed both. She is personable, accommodating, knowledgeable and passionate about Richmond and it's unique history. I brought my dog on this tour and Cherita made sure we always found shade and allowed me ample stops to offer the dog water.
