What you'll do

I take being a host on Airbnb very seriously and I’m all about offering the HIGHEST quality. When you choose my experience over others, you will have this super small and personal experience with a true local. I don’t have a HUGE operation with dozens of guides, where you never know who you are going with. I follow the rules on Airbnb completely and only have people booked through Airbnb with me on the tour. I don’t mix the group up with people booked from other places. This is why I have much smaller groups.

We will meet at Þingvellir national park, where the two tectonic plates, the north american and eurasian, are drifting apart from each other. Silfra is a fissure in between the two plates and has the clearest water on the planet. This makes Silfra one of the top dive sites in the world.

I will help you get suited up in the drysuit and explain how to use the snorkeling equipment. Followed by a small briefing about Silfra fissure and how everything regarding the snorkel works. The activity in the water is about 25-30 minutes. After we get out of the water we walk back to the car and enjoy a warm drink and some snacks.

I am a local Icelander and very knowledgeable about my country. I am a freediving champion in Iceland and a scuba instructor with a huge passion for water activities and underwater photography. I was born and raised on a small island in the south of Iceland, Vestmannaeyjar.

Silfra is my favorite place in the world and I try to spend as much time there as I can. I would love to share it with you.

Where you'll be

Þingvellir national park is a UNESCO world heritage site and will leave you speechless. You will snorkel within a crack between the Eurasian and American continents. Silfra’s water, which filtrates from the nearby Langjokull glacier, is fresh, pristine, and drinkable at around 2°C - 4°C all year round. Visibility can reach more than 100 meters, and snorkeling often feels more like flying.

This experience was amazing! We showed up and it turned out that the entire tour would comprise of 3 people, not a ton like most other tours. Going between peak times was great, too. A quick, detailed rundown of what we were going to do was followed by us changing into our dry suits. This wasn’t super comfortable, but much needed. We then made our way over to the site and had to wait a few min behind another group. Hedinn was really knowledgeable and friendly. We talked about his experience diving here and around the world. At one point, the instructor in front of us explained that Hedinn is one of the best underwater photographers in all of Iceland! Once we got in, it took no time to get adjusted to the freezing water. The suits were great in keeping us as warm as they could.. I suggest wearing a base layer, two pairs of socks, and an additional thin long sleeve shirt on top of the base later. Your feet, hands, and face will be cold though. Again, worth it. The views were incredible. It’s amazing how clear the water was. I expected to feel anxious or out of breath, but slowing floating downstream and taking in the depths was extremely relaxing. Like nothing I’ve experienced. We were in the water for 25-30 min before we got out and made our way back to the van. Hedinn provides hot coffee and biscuits to enjoy. We received the pictures he took during the experience, and they turned out great. I suggest going back to the site after you change. The pictures we took were amazing. We 100% recommended this experience!

It was an amazing experience that I am grateful to have been able to do. We had the whole Lagoon to ourselves being a group of 3 which made it absolutely unique

This is the best experience I have ever been on. I highly recommend diving the fissure with Hedinn rather than other tour groups. He offers small groups with a more personal experience than you won’t be able to find with the bigger group tours that take 15+ people at a time. He is very knowledgeable and you will be safe yet free to explore as if you were there on your own. Also comes with free pictures. There is a reason why he is rated to highly!
