What you'll do

Let's explore Kanazawa Omicho food market! Omicho market is called "Kanazawa people's kitchen". You could try many local products, for example, Kanazawa Oden, fresh Sashimi, fried fish cake, Noto beef, curry bread, etc... After that, we move to Higashichayagai district.
We think local food is one of the best contents to understand local people, life and culture. You could understand Kanazawa culture through foods!!

We are food lovers, travel lovers. We love Omicho market very much and tried so many shops. Of course we have many friends among vendors and knows the food. Around 6 years before, I had one year trip around the world. At that time I experienced and enjoyed many local places with locals. So I want to do opposite side now.
I or my best guides team(Naoko or Yu), will introduce highlights of Omicho market!!

Where you'll be

We will visit two traditional places.
At first, we visit Omicho market. At there, we plan to visit many places and try many foods for example, local Kanazawa Oden shop, Sashimi fish shop, fried fish cake factory, Dojo eel shop, Beef Sushi and Curry bread. Every place is our favorite and recommends!!
Then we move to Higashi Chaya district and feel the traditional culture and enjoy gold flake sweets!!

This was an unexpected delight. We met on a rainy day and were having second thoughts about wandering the streets in the rain, but so glad we did not cancel. Our 3 guides went out of their way to accommodate our needs as I am a vegetarian ( though I do eat seafood). We were introduced to delectable foods, flavors and the local culture that we could not have discovered on our own. They were knowledgeable about the local cuisine and excited to share that knowledge. We wanted to purchase a gift for our local host and they helped us locate a sake shop and identify a nice bottle. All three young women spoke excellent English, as they had all traveled abroad at some point. We had a chance to learn about their lives as well as share about ours. We attended this food tour on my birthday, what a great way to celebrate. I wish I had done this tour on my first day in Kanazawa, it would have made me more comfortable and knowledgeable ordering dinner out.

We had such a wonderful time with our host Nowko. She ordered for us, taught us a bit of Japanese, showed us all around the fish market and into two geisha districts in Kanazawa. Highly recommend this trip. We would have never tried some of the delicious Japanese treats without her help and the little hidden sights along the way were something we would have missed. She taught us not only about the delicious food available in the market, but also about Japanese religion and culture. So thrilled.

This was a great tour for our family of five. One of our party is gluten intolerant and Naoko took considerable care to ensure that all foods she ate were gluten free. She is very knowledgeable about local cuisine and customs and the tour was well paced and comprehensive. We definitely had an experience that would have been difficult to achieve in our own and we learnt a lot about the food in the Kanazawa area.

I have done food tours in the past in other cities and I can highly recommend this one! Naoko and her team were awesome and very knowledgeable, not only about the food but also the culture. You can go by yourself to the market but I am sure you will not have the same experience provided by this awesome tour.

Naoko was a great guide! Its a complete experience from food culture to history and lovely walks through the market and the narrow streets of quaint Kanazawa! My 11 years old daughter joined us as well and had a amazing time! Thanks Naoko!
