What you'll do

We'll explore the Wellington Taputeranga Marine Reserve and then stop at the Brooklyn wind turbine where we get stunning panoramic views of the Wellington region. We then drive north stopping at Rivendell, a LOTR site at the Kaitoke Regional Park. From there we head across the Remutaka ranges to Martinborough, stopping at the Landgirl cafe for coffee. Next stop is the Ngawi fishing village for lunch and views across Cape Pallliser. Less than 2km from Ngawi is the Cape Palliser where we stop and meet the local seals and their pups – this is one of the best nature experiences in New Zealand as we can get up close, but far enough away not to disturb them. It’s mesmerising and every visit is different! About 1km further along the Coast is the Cape Palliser lighthouse that we walk up 284 steps to have amazing coastal views. At this point we are at the most southern point of the North Island. On our return journey we stop at the Putangirua Pinnacles scenic conservation reserve. We’ll follow the marked track for 45min venturing venture up to the Pinnacles and walk amongst them. Along the way we'll see fossils embedded in the rocks. Following this we travel back to Wellington.

I am an experienced adventure tour guide with over 30 years of leading adventure related trips and tours with a deep understanding of Wellington’s cultural, geological, natural and maritime history. Over many years I have explored the Wellington and Wairarapa areas of the lower North Island and shared this experience with many of my Airbnb guests. I have an interest in history, palaeontology, conservation, and the natural environment that we live in. I am also a fully qualified scuba diving instructor and have explored New Zealand's diverse coastline and marine environment. The Airbnb Experiences that I have listed are designed to showcase the very best of the Wellington region and take guests to Lord of The Rings filming sites beyond reach of other tours.
