What you'll do

We will visit different places that I go regularly in search of knowledge, spiritual aggrandizement and even fun,I repeat FUN,because religion in Cuba, although it consists of a large part that is secret,is also characterized by the wide presence of music, songs, dances and shows that make it very attractive. You will can meet places, people and incredible stories that I assure you will never forget. We will meet in cafe habana, then we will start the trip in a place(Africa's House Museum) where you can have a direct contact with the history that involves the arduous path that had to cross the traditions that our ancestors bequeathed us to be placed today as the main religious trend practiced in the country,i'll give you a precise description, but interesting about the mystery that revolves around religion(stories and legends). Then,a classic car will take us to an incredible place where you can see the influence of african traditions in the Cuban culture(music, painting, dance, vocabulary, and even Cuban's way of being)is summarized in little space(Hamel Alley). Finally,we will visit the first and only Afro-style store in Cuba, where we can enjoy a delicious canchánchara (traditional drink) while understanding the particularities of a venture dedicated to highlighting Afro aesthetics and identity on the island. At the end of the trip, you will understand why we Cubans are lovers of our roots

I am a practitioner of three of the Afro-Cuban religions most practiced in Cuba today and mainly in Havana (Abakua,Santería,Palo Monte).I am constantly looking for information and stories that pass from generation to generation, and that my ancestors only dared to tell the most devoted. This knowledge, jealously guarded,I assure you will not find in any book, knowledge that I am willing to share with all those people who are interested in knowing more about the culture and traditions of this island, that without distinction of race, culture or creed, receives all visitors as their most beloved child.

This is an experience everyone should take! Ronna Abel does an amazing job of throughly and carefully explaining the different Afro Cuban religions and how they are they are integral part to the Afro Cuban culture. The fact that Ronna is a practitioner of 3 of the religions himself made the experience even better! I am so glad I got a chance to experience the african museum we started at, then we went to Hamel Alley and finally visited the beyond roots store. This is experience was all around amazing. As an African American I am so proud and glad to see Black people from a different culture and nationality celebrating and educating people about their black culture. Also, Ronna is the most humble and patient guy ever. It was like having a home boy take me around havana and explain the culture to me!

I expected to get a more in-depth understanding of the African culture influence on Cuba, but sadly didn’t really get that from this experience. We finished almost an hour earlier than the time advertised, and I think we went at a bit slow pace. The storytelling could have been a bit more organized and delivered more fluidly. I felt like I could do some reading by myself and still got good understanding of what this experience is said to deliver. The price is high for the value of the experience. Still it’s lower than most Afro Culture tours in Havana.
