What you'll do

Making soap is an experience that feels like you're in a cooking show/chemistry lab. First, we gear up with safety equipment, such as gloves, goggles, and long sleeve shirts. The reason we need to wear protection is because soap contains an ingredient called lye, and it is caustic for a few days before the oils deactivate it. Even once the lye is deactivated it takes about 2-3 weeks for the soap to cure, if you use it before this curing period the soap can make your skin dry. No one likes skin drying soap!
After we have our safety gear on its time to melt the oils and mix water with lye. These three ingredients are what soap is made out of, talk about a short ingredient list! We need to wait for the water and lye solution to cool to about the same temperature as the oils. As we wait we can plan what we want the soap to look like. After that, we mix the lye water and oils and the real fun begins! We add the fragrances, colors, and finally pour in the mold.
Guests will be able to take home a pre-made soap bar of their choosing, or I can ship the soap they made the next day for the extra cost of shipping and handling. I also include an info sheet of soaps history and impact.
Other things to note
We have a friendly dog named Eli, who loves company but barks when he hears someone at the door. We also have a kitty who roams around. We can have them stay with friends if you have allergies.

Since childhood, my mom owned a soap making book filled with beautiful and practical soap recipes. Finally, about 5 years ago she bought all the supplies needed to give soap making a go. After our first batch, we became obsessed! We made soaps regularly and sold bars every now and then if people were interested. But most of them stayed with family and friends as gifts.
Now I make soap away from home to feel more at home, and to spread my love for creativity and self care.

Valaeria was a fantastic host. She made us feel welcome and comfortable in her beauftiful home. The kitchen was well equipped with all things soap-making. Valeria was masterful at explaining the process, and made sure that we were able to participate throughout. She also had a great eye for art, which helped us pick out the right colors and aromas & create a really attractive, beautifully smelling soap. I would strongly recommend this experience for anyone who has an interest.

Very happy with this experience! I've read about soap making and Valeria hosted in a way that made it seem less complicated than what I've heard! Also, loved the cat.

I brought my two kids, booth teens, to experience soap making with Valeria. We had a wonderful afternoon. It was a fun way to learn how to do something new. Valeria’s was warm and fun to talk to along with being a great teacher. We made some beautiful soap and feel we have the information and confidence to do this on our own. I highly recommend this experience!
