What you'll do
I'll meet you at the quay of Lykling, giving a brief overwiew of the gold mines and soapstone quarries of this area. Actually the biggest gold mine of Norway, now protected area. A light meal of local food can be served before we drive the last kilometre into the mines on the seabed of the North Sea. We'll stroll through the traces and history from the mines being run her by english engineers the last part of the 1800's. Since I am co-owner of the only mine with license to still take out gold, you will be allowed to search (with hammers) for your own nugget of rock-gold in our slag heaps. Then we return via the soapstone quarry from late 1000, delivering pots and later big building blocks to all the medieval churches of Bergen. The traces from this activity are fascinatingly clear when you know what to look for. Finally we will enjoy a beer and a meal of tasteful local food at the small rustic cafe at the quay. Welcome!

I'm qualified after having hunted and fished here since childhood, written books, made several documentary films here and abroad, played theatre roles, made music and run cultural projects to tell the history of my island, my nature and my people.
