What you'll do

This is the ONLY experience like it in Charleston! Undiscovered Charleston culinary & and history tour culminates with a cooking demo, lunch and wine pairing led by acclaimed Charleston Chef Forrest Parker. The only certified chef tour guide, Parker distills 400 years into a 90 minute walking tour followed by an indoor Lowcountry demo and lunch. You'll meet at the Pineapple Fountain at Waterfront Park with parking garages nearby, then Chef Forrest guides you along an undiscovered path exploring the complicated history of the Holy City and the culinary influences that shaped Charleston into one of the world's top food destinations. You'll visit the not-to-be-missed sights, but also the lesser-known & understood locations where, for example, an enslaved chef created a recipe that still helps define local menus. The tour concludes at cozy Bistro A Vin, where you relax while Chef Forrest demonstrates how to prepare the recipes he wrote, interpreting definitive Lowcountry classics, and prepared using techniques he mastered over two decades. You'll take his recipes home with you as his gift to you!
Other things to note

I call upon the culture, history and flavor traditions of South Carolina to create heritage-infused experiences. I am the only certified chef tour-guide in Charleston, and am a South Carolina Chef Ambassador, selected by the governor in 2016. South Carolina is my home state. I began in the culinary arts in Charleston in 1995. Frequently covered by food writers, my recipes and what some call my encyclopedic knowledge of Charleston history, plus my commitment to championing the work of heritage food producers lead to my roles in some of the city's finest restaurant.

This tour is hands down the best tour available in charleston! Forrest does an exceptional job of weaving together the history of the city and that of low-country food. In one swoop you get to hear and taste history. Forrest is a brilliant story-teller with a friendly and easy manner. Exceptional food and instructional material. Lots of great jokes too! Highly recommend!!

It is clear that Forrest is passionate about history and good food. His tour started at Charleston harbor and went through the architecture of the area. We were invited into the kitchen to hear about his dishes and ask questions about ingredients. He shared his secrets and recipes and cooked the best shrimp and grits I’ve ever eaten. I would do this tour again! I had a great time talking with the guests and sharing delicious food! This experience made my first day in Charleston SC very memorable!

This experience was excellent! Forrest has a passion for Charleston and for cooking that we enjoyed very much being a part of. It’s not every day you can watch a talented chef prepare wonderful food and have it served right to your plate with a nice wine pairing! If you enjoy history and great food, this is a tour for you. I will be making awesome shrimp and grits for our family holiday brunch this year. Thanks Forrest !
