What you'll do

This is the ONLY experience like it in Charleston! Undiscovered Charleston culinary & and history tour culminates with a cooking demo, lunch and wine pairing led by acclaimed Charleston Chef Forrest Parker. The only certified chef tour guide, Parker distills 400 years into a 90 minute walking tour followed by an indoor Lowcountry demo and lunch. You'll meet at the Pineapple Fountain at Waterfront Park with parking garages nearby, then Chef Forrest guides you along an undiscovered path exploring the complicated history of the Holy City and the culinary influences that shaped Charleston into one of the world's top food destinations. You'll visit the not-to-be-missed sights, but also the lesser-known & understood locations where, for example, an enslaved chef created a recipe that still helps define local menus. The tour concludes at cozy Bistro A Vin, where you relax while Chef Forrest demonstrates how to prepare the recipes he wrote, interpreting definitive Lowcountry classics, and prepared using techniques he mastered over two decades. You'll take his recipes home with you as his gift to you!
Other things to note
We'll walk rain or shine, but here there is a lot of shine! If you have a special food requirement, we'll do our best to accommodate you, but we need you to tell us when you book your tour.

I call upon the culture, history and flavor traditions of South Carolina to create heritage-infused experiences. I am the only certified chef tour-guide in Charleston, and am a South Carolina Chef Ambassador, selected by the governor in 2016. South Carolina is my home state. I began in the culinary arts in Charleston in 1995. Frequently covered by food writers, my recipes and what some call my encyclopedic knowledge of Charleston history, plus my commitment to championing the work of heritage food producers lead to my roles in some of the city's finest restaurant.

I booked this tour as a surprise for my fiancé and we loved every minute of our time with Chef Forrest!! No detail goes overlooked in both the walking tour and the cooking experience. My fiancé and I were lucky enough for scheduling to only have us two on the tour and it made the experience so much more special. Chef went above and beyond with his cooking skills, meals, and knowledge to share. We have lived in the low country for 2 years and I have never had such an awesome southern hospitality experience to include the best food I have eaten here. If you are in the area visiting or a local this is a MUST DO!!! Chef also follows proper Covid precautions with distancing, masking, hygiene, etc. We felt extremely safe the whole experience.

We are SC locals and came across this excursion when we were looking for a weekend getaway for New Years Day. This was an amazing experience! We got so much history on the tour (I wish I had taken actual notes) and really enjoyed the food and wine experience. In terms of the tour, I greatly appreciated that he incorporated the full history of Charleston, including it’s not so great parts (I.e. slavery) and how it has played a role in culinary culture. We’ve been to Charleston several times, and he took us to roads and places we had never discovered before. In terms of the food and wine, Chef Forrest really took his time to get us acquainted with his cooking and you can tell he enjoys doing this. It’s not just a tour, he treats you like you’re in his home. The time flew by, and we were sad when it was over. It was probably one of the best meals we’ve had in Charleston. I also love that he wants to continue his relationship with his tour participants. He gave us his cell number and encouraged us to reach out about cooking tips, Charleston restaurants recommendations, etc. I would highly recommend if you want to do something really delicious, educational, and fun, try this tour. I look forward to eating his food again in the future! Absolutely worth the money!

Enjoyed exploring Charleston and hitting some of the major historical locations but also Chef Forrest shared some little know facts and some of his favorite restaurants and eateries to check out. Chef's lunch was the highlight, ate too much but it was one of the best meals! Food textures were amazing! Venue was only for our tour group with room to socially distance but still cozy atmosphere.

Definitely recommend this experience to anyone visiting Charleston! Chef Forrest is an expert in his field, and such a sweet and welcoming person. The tour in the beginning was a great way to learn about the history of the city and how that history has shaped the cuisine. The lunch was absolutely magnificent. We ate the best shrimp + grits I've ever had, plus a number of other superb dishes and wine pairings with each course. Chef Forrest also went out of his way to make sure everyone felt safe and comfortable during these Covid times. He gave some great food recommendations as well for the rest of our trip, and even sent us home with the recipes from our meal!

The experience exceeded expectations...Chef Gump was great. My wife and I have had the opportunity to do these types of tours all over the world and this one fits at the top of the list. He made it incredibly interesting but lots of levity throughout. He is incredibly knowledgeable which was great but only the beginning. His talent in the kitchen is amazing and that sealed the deal that we will do this again with friends. Highly recommend...
