What you'll do

This hands on pottery experience will introduce beginners to the magic of throwing clay on a potters wheel in a small intimate setting.

On arrival we'll do a tour of my gallery and studio. You'll see a variety of unique ceramic artworks to give you inspiration for your time on the wheel. I'll also show you the various equipment I use to make ceramics including wheels, a extruder, a slab roller and a one ton kiln!

We'll then roll up our sleeves and I'll show you how clay is prepared before being thrown. Next we'll get on the wheel and I'll personally guide you step by step how to turn a block of clay into a work of art. By the end of the class you'll have made several pieces with a choice of cups or bowls.

Finally, you'll choose what colour glaze your want applied to your masterpieces!

For groups of two or more weekday dates can be requested.
Other things to note
Aprons are supplied but please wear comfortable and casual clothing that you won’t mind possibly getting clay on.

I'm a Canadian artist and have been teaching pottery for more than a decade and have appeared on TV teaching pottery. My work explores motion in nature and I draw inspiration from my stunning surroundings in the Royal National Park.

Having studied art therapy my philosophy on teaching pottery is that it should be fun and easy so you can expect lots of humour and laughter at one of my sessions

We had a fantastic experience doing wheel throwing pottery with Marion. Time flew by! It was well paced and relaxing at the same time. Marion gave us great instruction. We all found it easy to follow as beginners and great to end up with a finished creation which we look forward to receiving when fired. We highly recommend giving this a try, it is well worth it. Thank you Marion! We will be back another time.

Playing with the clay was the first time for use and we LOVED It. It was therapeutic and relaxing. So much fun, we didn’t see the time. Marion explained us the concept, what we would be doing and we went straight to practice. What seems easy to do is not… It requires skills, practice and precision. The. Studio is tiny which allows her to be with you when you need support. The experience was fun and totally relaxing. I loved the feeling of the clay spinning in my hands. Must be a Taurus thing enjoying connection with mother earth element. Can’t wait to do it again.
