What you'll do

NATURAL HORSEMANSHIP
Understand horse behavior. Develop respect, co-operation and trust. Become comfortable and safe on and off the horse.

1. Groundwork:
You will learn to establish leadership, communication, and trust.
You will also develop the skills necessary to 'join-up', 'follow-up', and train a horse to obey your commands of his own free will.

2. Riding skills:
You will master basic riding skills. You will be able to stop, turn, speed up, slow down and exercise complete control for a comfortable and safe ride.

3. Trail rides:
Our ultimate goal is to enjoy the Mojave Desert on horseback.
You will experience the thrill of riding through the mountains, blooming cactuses, sand dunes, and Mesquite trees while taking in the unique beauty of blue skies and the most amazing sunsets.

I worked for Cirque du Soleil for the last 10 years as Artistic Director.
I grew up in Germany and while teaching dance, choreography and performance art in The Netherlands, I began fulfilling my lifelong dream to ride and train horses. I took intense riding classes and natural horsemanship clinics at several Dutch riding stables. When I was hired to come to Las Vegas, I used the opportunity to dive into the wild west. I spent time at a working cattle ranch in Tucumcari (NM) and deepened my horse experience by training rescue horses, giving riding lessons and teaching natural horsemanship.

Where you'll be

Our 60’ round pen is our principal training facility. You will learn to control the horse’s movement with simple voice commands or hand gestures without any physical connection to the horse (such as a halter and lead rope). You’ll also learn “join up,” where the horse accepts you as leader. From there, we move on to riding within the safe environment of the round pen. When a rider becomes competent, we’ll transition into the desert where we

I had a super time. Silke was very knowledgeable, very patient, a great instructor, fun to talk with, and undoubtedly a very nice person. The instruction and training was indispensable, since although I LOVED horses my whole life, I haven’t had much experience with them, and what experiences I have had were decades apart. What a beautiful ranch! The setting could not have been perfect for a person that wanted to be Festus Haigen in training. The Mojave Desert is simply beautiful. My horse Candy, couldn’t have been more sweeter. I had high expectations, and they were exceeded. Thank you Silke, and Candy!,

My husband and I went on this Trek for his birthday while we were in Vegas, it was a great experience. The hosts actually taught us about horse behaviour and how to join up with a horse in a pen/ring which you usually don’t get on these sorts of trips. It was really good to learn as well as made us comfortable as new riders. The ranch is beautiful and absolutely recommend this to people completely new to horses. We did not stay there but they also have accommodation that I’m sure would be great to stay out with all sorts of other ranch activities . One real unique note is the stories that Al told us while on the trek around their part of the desert - never had I heard Cowboy Poetry before, very funny, they even gifted us a book that Al wrote which was a nice touch. Thank you Silke and Al for the great experience.
