What you'll do

We will start this experience with a short presentation on safe doggie handling. This way you will be a confident leader for your canine partner. Then we'll hand over the leash and you'll get to see the dog have a blast on the hiking trail. I will guide the hike so that I can make sure you and the dogs are all doing okay. We will stop to take photos and cuddle with the dogs too.

I have been volunteering with the Humane Society of El Paso for over the past 2 years and enjoy taking the shelter dogs on hikes. I have lived and worked in El Paso for the past 9 years and enjoy the outdoor landscape.

About the organization

Humane Society of El Paso

The Humane Society of El Paso—HSEP—is a private, nonprofit animal shelter that has served El Paso for 67 years. We are the largest No-Kill shelter in the county. Our mission is to prevent suffering, neglect, abuse, and cruelty to animals, provide information, raise public awareness of animal issues, and promote responsible guardianship and kindness toward all living things.

This is a social impact experience where 100% of what you pay for this experience goes to Humane Society of El Paso.

Where you'll be

We will hike up McKelligon Canyon Road, which is a paved road that goes up into the Franklin Mountains—an iconic backdrop to El Paso. This trek up the mountain offers some pretty views of El Paso down below and gorgeous desert scenes. The hike is just short of five miles roundtrip and we will stop for photo opportunities and water breaks. On our way, we will see the McKelligon Canyon Amphitheater, home to the Viva! El Paso musical festival.
