What you'll do

The Cider Farm Tour and Tasting will begin in our orchard`s Tasting Room with a sample of our excellent organic apple juice followed by the history of the area in terms of cider producing and how we came to be here growing apples on 3000 trees and fermenting cider in the first place. Next we take our visitors on a guided tour of our mature orchards as we discuss our orcharding techniques and practices on an organic farm. I explain and describe our methods with which we craft our British Champion Ciders over 8 months from apple to crisp, golden nectar in a glass. With a behind the scenes tour of our bottling, kegging, apple pressing and harvesting equipment and barns. Where they see how and where we press our apples and the alchemy from apple to award winning, world class amber-gold cider. We encourage guests to ask us questions so we can teach them about us and the art of master cider making. Guests are shown how we make our 3 year old organic, live enzyme apple cider vinegar. The Tour is completed with a sampling of our ever expanding range of 12 ciders from our unique west country cider apples from Sweet Maiden, Old Harry Rocks and Wild Cat to our Foxy Ginger and Damson ciders.

Hi I`m Ryan, I`ve been a partner in our family run, awardwinning craft cider company called Dorset Nectar for the last 6 years, I`m passionate about our certified Organic ciders and am always experimenting with new and exciting blends. We have 12 delicious blends at present and will be releasing a rum barrel aged and Marmalade cider.
I`m very active in the professional cider community, helping to run a local annual Cider festival in the local village of Melplash, attend cider competitions as a judge and attend seminars and meetings with the South West Cider Association and NACM.

Where you'll be

Our Cider farm and orchard is located in one of West Dorsets Areas of Outstanding Beauty in the historic village of Waytown in an area which is renowned for producing the finest ciders for years. In May-June our 3000 apple trees are in bloom littering the grass with white and pink blossoms and we keep our own bees to pollinate the orchard. We are conveniently located within a mile of a campsite where guests can stay the night an idyllic pub.

It was an okay experience overall, a little disappointed with the lack of process we got to see & group size was big so tasters were tiny and you couldn’t always hear the host. She was informative about the apples and the background of cider.

Very interesting to go behind the scenes of a local producer. Penny was very friendly & informative. Well worth the value with some delicious ciders to sample and buy.

Thoroughly enjoyable few hours learning about cider making from Penny! Very generous with the tasters, Shame it was so wet which cut our walk through the orchards short!
