What you'll do

This is a full tour of a working farm in the Asheville area. We'll start at the front of the property, giving a history of the farmhouse and general Leicester area, then work our way along the horse fields and into the pastures. Wear good walking shoes, as we will climb to the treeline of our small mountain, and be ready for lots of four-legged company, as our friendly goats are always curious about new visitors. Descending from that point, we'll explore the rabbit house, chicken coops, turkey pens and goat enclosures. We'll check on our horses and donkey, then fill our milk bottles and find what are indisputably the cutest animals on the block - our baby goats. Bottle feeding baby goats is extremely easy and makes you feel like an agrarian Mother Theresa. They are always growing and always hungry! After feeding, we'll head back towards the farmhouse for house-made goat cheese and crackers, and, if you're on an evening tour, a glass of wine. (In a town known so much for beer, we find this is a refreshing change of pace). To wrap up the tour, we'll answer any questions you may have about farming in WNC. We love visitors and love to share Mt. Gilead Farm with them!
