SF Night Photo Workshop

San Francisco, United States

Experience hosted by Eric

  1. 2.5 hours
  2. Hosted in English

What you'll do

In this experience you'll learn about night time photography and get classic SF images too.

We meet at SF's Ferry Building, an hour before sunset. We’ll start with an introduction into nighttime camera exposure techniques, and learn what settings work and those that do not and why.

Then dive into 6 ways to ensure your images are razor sharp regardless of shooting day or night. With the sunset approaching, we'll walk down a few hundred feet toward Rincon Park to position ourselves for the best composition & lighting on the Bay Bridge.

Next, out to the very end of Pier 14, this time pointing our cameras back toward the city skyline with the Transamerica on our left, Coit Tower to the far right, and the rest of the city between.

And before you go you'll learn to shoot trailing lights.
Other things to note
You will need your own DSLR or Mirrorless Camera plus absolutely a tripod. I rent cameras and tripods if needed. Wear layered clothing and good walking shoes.

I started studying night photography on 11/12/00 - the day after the photographer missed the big Hawaiian sunset shot at my wedding. Now a professional photographer I have now taught night photography to over 1,700 people. I lead photo tours & workshops via Eric Gould Photography in San Francisco, Big Sur, Yosemite and Cuba. My favorite photos are urban skylines, the Milky Way and shooting stars.

Eric was great at communicating and was accommodating of our dates. I am a beginner while my boyfriend has more experience with photography and we both found value in the class and left having learned a lot! I would recommend this experience to anyone regardless of level. Had a great time and took some great pictures.

Eric is so knowledgeable and was able to explain so much. He was able to teach thoroughly and provided hands on teaching to each guest. He had patience and was able to really get into detail about night photography. I recommend it to anyone that is interested in night photography and wants to capture the beautiful lights of San Francisco.

Eric really shares his experiences in photography and it is clear he wants to see others succeed. He puts forth effort to make sure that you get that special shot and coaches you on how to do it again after the workshop. I highly recommend this from Eric because he makes it fun and interactive.

Eric was a fantastic host! Very knowledgeable and friendly, and did a really nice job of explaining technical things in a way that made it easy to apply even for the shots we took that night. Had a great time!

This was a gift for my mom and her partner and they absolutely loved it. Both are very experienced photographers and both came away having learned a lot. I highly recommend this experience - it makes for a great gift :-)
