What you'll do

We meet in Old Mill Park near charming downtown Mill Valley (or shuttle from Sausalito--see details below), where we start our walking exploration of Marin's magical redwood forest. Following quiet backroads and footpaths, we visit quiet groves of ancient redwood trees and follow spring-fed creeks to natural pools and cascading falls. In this peaceful forest, unique to the northern California and southern Oregon coastal region, the sequoia semperviren soar hundreds of feet into the sky, providing an unequaled nature experience at base of mighty Mt. Tamalpais. Along the way, you learn about the coastal redwoods' amazing ecology and their clever adaptations for survival over many millions of years. It is a remarkable escape into nature on the slopes of beautiful Mt. Tam.

Up to three guests per walk can meet me in Sausalito 45 minutes before the start time, where we will shuttle to Mill Valley's Old Mill Park (by advance arrangement only. Return shuttle to Sausalito included.) Weekend ferry service from SF to Sausalito has resumed. Guests need to catch the 10:40AM Golden Gate ferry from the terminal behind SF's Ferry Building (foot of Market St.) Ferry arrives Sausalito at 11:10AM.

If you need another start time, please contact me via Airbnb direct message or e-mail at sanfranciscocoastwalk@gmail.com. This refreshing walk is also ideal for corporate team building outings!

I grew up just over the hill from Muir Woods in Mill Valley. Mt. Tam and the redwood forests were a playground for myself and my childhood pals. Years later, I founded a nature walking company, Coastal Walkers, focusing on the region's abundance of nature trails and scenic coastal spots. My routes are uncrowded and peaceful, a wonderful way to experience northern California nature and the primeval forests of the ancient redwoods.

Note: If the walk is fully booked and you can meet us in Mill Valley (30 minutes drive from SF), please contact me and I will be able to accommodate you.

My other nature walks: Redwoods of Marin Photo Walk (airbnb.com/experiences/60872), Golden Gate Coast (airbnb.com/experiences/60533), Lands End (airbnb.com/experiences/61724), and Sausalito Golden Gate Sunset Walk (airbnb.com/experiences/61731)

Where you'll be

We meet in Mill Valley's Old Mill Park, just 20-30 minutes drive north of San Francisco. The town is nestled at the foot of Mt. Tamalpais, the locals' favorite peak. We stroll into an ancient redwood forest, following a fern-lined creek and hidden paths on this magical hike into the natural heart of Marin County. Note: If the walk is booked full and you can meet us in downtown Mill Valley, please contact me and we will be able to accommodate you.

My 10-year old and I loved this hiking experience with Ben! He was accommodating to my son’s slower pace. He was gracious in answering ALL of the questions that my son had for him. Ben is very knowledgeable about the local area. We learned so much about the redwood trees, Mt Tam and Mill Valley. This was the best guided hiking experience! We would do this again!

I booked this hike as a part of a surprise birthday trip to San Francisco for my boyfriend. Ben was such a great experience guide! He was super knowledgeable about the redwoods, the ecosystem, and even the history of the San Francisco and Marin County areas. We both enjoyed ourselves and the beauty of the hike was unparalleled. As a plus, when we got a little behind and stuck in downtown Mill Valley, he offered to come pick us up and also drove us down to the cafe in Sausalito where we were having a post-hike lunch. I definitely recommend Ben’s tour of the redwoods to anyone!
