What you'll do

Walk among the giant redwoods in charming Mill Valley

Escape into nature and fresh air! We start our exploration of Marin's magical redwood forest in the charming center of historic Mill Valley before heading on quiet backroads and footpaths to groves of ancient redwood trees. Following a spring-fed creek to natural pools and cascading falls, we visit ancient, cathedral-like redwood groves, where the trees soar hundreds of feet into the sky, provide an unequaled nature experience at base of mighty Mt. Tamalpais. Along the way, you learn about the coastal redwoods' amazing ecology and their clever adaptations for survival over many millions of years. It is a remarkable escape into nature on the slopes of beautiful Mt. Tam.

Note: If the walk is fully booked or if you can meet us in downtown Mill Valley, please contact me via Airbnb message or e-mail at sanfranciscocoastwalk@gmail.com and we might be able to accommodate you. This refreshing, tranquil walk is also ideal for private groups and corporate team building outings!

I grew up just over the hill from Muir Woods in Mill Valley. Mt. Tam and the redwood forests were my playground for myself and my childhood pals. Years later, I founded a nature walking company, Coastal Walkers, with co-leader Greg Garcia. My creekside routes are uncrowded and peaceful, a wonderful way to experience northern California nature and the primeval forests of the ancient redwoods.

Note: If the walk is fully booked and you can meet us in Mill Valley by car or bus, please contact me and we might be able to accommodate you.

Where you'll be

We meet at the ferry landing in the charming bayside town of Sausalito and shuttle to Mill Valley, nestled at the foot of Mt. Tamalpais, the locals' favorite peak. We stroll into an ancient redwood forest, following a fern-lined creek and hidden paths on this magical hike into the natural heart of Marin County. Note: If the walk is booked full or you can meet us in downtown Mill Valley, please contact me and we might be able to accommodate you.

This was a delightful excursion and easily done from SF--especially if staying close to the ferry terminal. It was really nice to have someone from the area to talk with about redwoods and the local environment. I gained a lot more out of this particular guided trek than I would have on my own. Ideal day trip into the serene!

Absolutely wonderful experience! Greg was so knowledgeable on the area and had great stories to go with it. It was so neat seeing the residential area intertwined with the redwoods and learning about the history of the area. Would definitely recommend this experience, it was my favorite part of our SF trip! Also, Greg is a wonderful photographer!

We felt that it was great hike & Greg provided us with a variety of interesting knowledge & stories about the region. Dropped us off close by so that we had an opportunity to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge at the end of the trip. Gail & Beth

Our guide Greg was very knowledgeable of redwoods, flowers and other plants and animals, Marin County and the immediate area: full of stories. It was fascinating to see this area so close to Sausalito/San Francisco. Showed us some fun tips in taking pics in pano. The time flew by. We took advantage of him dropping us off close to the Golden Gate bridge. We walked across rather than taking a bus back from Sausalito.
