Sally is a great host, also she's an expert about design (interior/graphic etc), I feel wonderful to have very nice talk with her, she can see things in a different way, I mean in a beautiful way, and she is very nice to recommend some great place to me as I am a tourist. So I have got much much more than a cooking class. Her version of Nasi Lemak is more healthy, which inspired me how to create my own version too. We eat together, and this is the first time I learnt how to eat by hand, afterwards I even take away some of it. I have a wonderful time, hope you would experience it too.

This was a very unique and fantastic experience. Not often do you have the opportunity to cook a meal and eat it in a real local family's home. Salmiah and her family welcomed us warmly and had friendly conversation with us before and after dinner. She was also great at explaining how to cook our meal and made sure we all understood how we could make it again on our own. After we cooked our meal we all sat around and ate our food in traditional Malay fashion with our hands. It is definitely a fun activity to do with a group of friends because the meal is quite big.

Salmiah went way out of her way to accommodate us. Initially we were a group of 4 staying at a hostel and she agreed to come to us with all her ingredients, but then the hostel didn’t agree to letting an outsider use the kitchen facilities. This really worked in our favor. Salmiah came and met us at the metro station closest to us, and took us back to Her sisters home where we did the cooking class. It was just the sweetest thing ever to meet her whole family including her mother, sister nephew and brother in law. They took us in like we were family. We got a real experience to meet authentic locals in their own setting. She treated us with a refreshing juice, and we got to interact and play with her nephew. With a very modest apartment and even more modest kitchen, she had us chop up the vegetables and prepare the ingredients to cook one of Malaysia’s most commonly eaten dishes called Nasi Lemak. Her and her sister thoroughly went through all the details of the cooking process and also all the whole shared us tid bits of interest about her country and her life. We finished the food prep, and brought everything to the floor, where we sat around and ate this incredible meal with our hands as they do. The food tasted amazing and we were stuffed. This definitely made our trip to Malaysia, and the cost was way too low for what we got. I’d highly recommend this experience to any traveller. Sally and her family are gems!
