What you'll do

It will be held at the Horippa Guest House operated by the host in Misaki Town, Okayama Prefecture. I will explain Ainu string instrument Tonkori and Ainu language song. Then I will do a short performance of Ainu music. After that, we will do a workshop of Ainu's song "Upopo" with guest participants. "Upopo" is a one of Ainu language song, with several people sitting to a circle and singing a simple repeating phrase by while delaying one beat every time. "Upopo" is also said to be a natural trance, you can experience a fantastic sense of unity and healing like ascending while drawing a spiral. Let's sing "Upopo" together with everyone.

I am a player of Ainu string instrument Tonkori. I sing Ainu and Okinawa folk songs as original arrangements. There are more than 30 years of activity history as a multiplayer who plays various instruments such as Indian tabla, Djembe, Cajon, Didgeridoo and other instruments. In 1991 he debuted album from Japan Crown Records. In 1994 he formed a band called Tenkoo orchestra. World debut from German IC / DIGIT label. Also released 10 albums in Japan. In 2018 two songs from Taiwan's major label were released online. In 2018 solo released 2 songs from Taiwan's major label on the net delivery. I participated in 20 CDs so far in various forms such as solo, band, session. Appearance at the Fuji Rock Festival and the Glastonbury Festival in the UK. In addition to solo activities, activities such as improvisation sessions with Butoh dancers, composition of stage music, composition of CMs, production, workshops, yoga sound navigation etc. are diverse.

Where you'll be

The workshop venue is a guesthouse operated by the host. It is located in Yoshigahara, Misaki-cho, Kume-gun, Okayama Prefecture. The experience of singing Japanese indigenous Ainu songs which you can not touch usually, brings back fantastic and healing like to wake up ancient memories sleeping in you.

More tips

The workshop takes about 1.5 hours. There is a break on the way. You can participate without preparing anything apart from curiosity.
